    Frame paint options?

Starting to think about my upcoming Gen5000 restoration. Just for the heck of it, I'd like to do it as nicely as possible. Has anyone ever done anything other than rattle-can paint on the frame before? I have an air sprayer that I've used to paint cars and things like that before and I'm...

Good find? How did I do for $45?

If it's still working (which seems like a big "if"), I'll definitely give it a go for a while before I do anything else with it. I've personally never had a grill flame out on me so on the surface it doesn't seem particularly useful, but obviously that's not statistically significant and if...

Good find? How did I do for $45?

It's a shame, really - it would be nice to leave it "as designed", and maybe I could even adapt some parts from something else to make it work the same, assuming this one doesn't (the link you posted earlier mentioned marine gas ranges, and older-style water heaters with a pilot light also have...

Good find? How did I do for $45?

Yes, I've read that and some of the other threads on it as well. Once I take it apart I'll probably understand more, but it sounds like everyone is suggesting simply removing the flame check valve and connecting the supply hose directly to the manifold. That's all fine, but then it leaves the...

Good find? How did I do for $45?

If I can't come up with anything else for the flame check, I assume I can always just bypass it and then find a 1000 control panel without the flame check hole. If I can find a way to leave the button there in the right place but non functional then that will work too. Either way it doesn't seem...

Good find? How did I do for $45?

Ah, perfect. I was looking at the Weber serial number decoder for charcoal grills and it said K was 1988, but I thought I remembered reading the KL5 thing before. I don't have a natural gas hookup yet but I will be adding one this summer, so I'm happy that it's a natural gas model.

Good find? How did I do for $45?

Funny thing is I purchased and moved this thing home so fast I didn't even notice the Flamecheck button... hah. Just did another walkaround on it and it seems to be in excellent shape. Serial # is KN5 which if I understand correctly puts it as a 1988 model. Amazingly good shape for something...

Good find? How did I do for $45?

This just popped up on Craigslist and the seller was so close I could actually see his house from mine. All 3 glass panels are intact! Slats are in very nice shape though not all are straight - so I might replace them anyway. Frame looks really solid. I think this one must have been kept inside...

I will just leave this here

There must be a service or piece of software that automatically posts things on CL that's causing some of this. I've had an email alert set up on CL for about a year now and some of the grills out there get re-posted at least weekly for that whole time. And, they often get posted at weird times...

    Genesis E-330 Broken Knob

This kind of abuse of the policy is exactly why so many companies have watered down their return policies and warranties. People like that end up ruining things for the rest of us.

Well, my 2019 season finally begins

Just a thought - I didn't even notice the fact that you didn't grind out the box until I got to the picture with the grates & flavorizers removed (the shot of the burners). If you have any trouble, I wonder if simply omitting the 6th and 7th picture would help? It would call a bit less attention...

Well, my 2019 season finally begins

That is really sharp. That particular style of Silver B looks just a touch more modern than the 2000-2002 units, and the blue really goes well with it. Hard to say for sure, but in my opinion the fact that you didn't grind out the bottom of the firebox shouldn't matter at all. It looks clean...

Yep, it's basically a Master Touch kettle with a table attached. That one included a gas assist (for lighting the coals). I'm on the lookout now for one myself. I'd like to try some smoking with a kettle and don't have one. Seems like having the table space might be nice.

Yeah, that seems like a very odd decision on Nexgrill's part. Who wants to drag a 20lb tank to a tailgate (probably one of the biggest markets for portable grill sales)? Interestingly a number of the reviews specifically mention Weber - either as this grill being cheaper or that they are...

I will just leave this here

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't want it - if nothing else it just doesn't have as nice of a look as a Q. I'm going to go the used route for sure if I get a Q. But yeah, it certainly seems like Nexgrill is closing the gap a bit with that model. The specs specifically call out 304 stainless burners...

Well, my 2019 season finally begins

Agreed - I was asking more just for personal use. I'm not going to be doing rehabs for sale anytime soon, not enough time for that. But you guys have infected me. After fixing up my first one, I found another silver B identical to the one I had only it was natural gas, which I want to convert...

I noticed something interesting while in Costco today: https://www.costco.com/Nexgrill-Cast-Aluminum-Table-Top-Gas-BBQ.product.100384628.html From a distance I almost thought it was a Q for a second. Looked at it up close briefly - definitely "inspired" by the Q. The cookbox and lid were...

Craziest thing I've ever had happen

I just read an article last week regarding the controversy around Pyrex. I didn't know this myself but apparently Pyrex no longer uses borosilicate glass which is what made it so famous and resistant to thermal shock, and people are experiencing more explosions just like you did...

Well, my 2019 season finally begins

Bruce and you others who do full rehabs - I've been meaning to ask. Do you completely strip the exterior of the lid sides down to bare metal? The 2 Silver Bs that I've redone so far both had the typical places where the textured paint had flaked off. I sanded those spots but left the rest of the...
