    All TC probe HM?!?

I know I've had interest in an all TC HeaterMeter for a while now. The 1 TC that I purchased at the start for the pit is still going strong, despite being left out in the rain and winter and everything ALL THE TIME. I've had a few of the ThermoWorks food probes die on me, and no longer read at...

    Wet HeaterMeter :(

@ralph I gave it a quick try when I dried it out this morning with some alcohol and a paper towel. Didn't have a brush or anything handy and I was trying to get HeaterMeter back running to finish my cook before work. I will get an old toothbrush or something and give it another go when I get...

    Wet HeaterMeter :(

Hey guys. It's been a very long time since I've visited the forums, but I'm glad to see you're all still kicking it :) I built a HeaterMeter 4.2.4 some time ago, and have been using it to make delicious BBQ with no issues. A few weeks ago I smoked a brisket overnight to bring in to work. All...

    Looking for an addition feature...

I guess you could also do that ramp down in reverse. To remove the overshoot in the first place. Maybe have it set the initial set point to 10-15 degrees below desired and then do the same kind of ramp up to bring it to temperature.

    Alarms functionality

Maybe also give it a setable time delay? So if it goes out of bounds briefly but the Heatermeter reals it back in a few seconds later (maybe a big gust of wind came by? Maybe it's raining?) it won't go off?

    Alarms functionality

So maybe this is already possible and I just don't know. Would it be possible to have the pit alarm be set as a deviation from the current set temp? So if say I have it set at 225 for most of the cook and then ramp it up because it's getting late, or I've wrapped after the stall, or whatever...

    Case for RDTC board v6.3

I've cooked low n slow over night in my Weber kettle in Chicago winters. I believe it was around 10-15*F and windy. I had the slow n sear insert installed. Worked fine. Cold isn't really the problem. Wind is.

    SmartFire controller

There is also this one. http://www.smobot.com It's a damper only controller for the exhaust side of BGEs and the like. Seems nifty.

    SmartFire controller

http://smartfirebbq.com I'm not interested in it since I have a Heatermeter, but figured I would share. Maybe some one wants to make the same idea from a Heatermeter?

    Controlling RD3

The stock fan for the RD3 moves a good amount of air. I believe most people run it with the max % throttled back quite a bit. You have to figure out what works best for your cooker and the temperatures you want to maintain. I run my PBC with no fan at all. Just a damper. I feel the only time I...

    Thermocoupler offset?

I'm not sure why you would prefer to test in a temperature range that is inconsequential to cooking, but that's up to you. Put probe in pot of boiling water. Check that it reads 212 degrees. Offset to compensate. Altitude will change it but not a whole ton. At 5250ft (basically Denver) you're...

    Thermocoupler offset?

I always calibrate my things in boiling water. Who cares if the temperature reading is slightly wrong at room temperature, if the temperatures you are monitoring are needed to be accurate at 200ish degrees? Your pit is running 225 or better and you want to pull meat at or before 205 generally...

    Whomper Damper

Yeah. If it works it works. Don't mess with it. Just seems really high is all. Lol

    Whomper Damper

30 for a P seems way too high. It would mean that at 3* under set point puts it basically wide open... At that point you're basically on/off with it. Though if you're holding temperatures good who am I to say it's wrong.

    Whomper Damper

Excellent results! I am currently running my FlatDamper fanless on my PBC. I don't have it quite dialed in as good as you, but I think fanless is a super viable way to run a pit. The only thing it lacks, and it's not an issue for me, is the ability to quickly stoke coals and ramp up the temp...

Best way to get probes into WSM

Get yourself a nice sharp small drill bit. Drill a starter hole. Then, get a step drill and open it up as big as you want. Next, go to here and get appropriate size grommets.

Airflow comparison of HeaterMeter blower/servo operation modes

I've been running my PBC with my FlatDamper and no fan at all. It'll hold 350ish with no problems. 375 is kinda pushing it if I don't start it super hot with lotsa lit coals. 225-275 is easy. It doesn't have the ability to ramp temp up quick though so I basically have to get it started how I...

Solution for mounting SS pipe onto SS dog bowl?

I would imagine this use case will be perfectly fine. It's on the outside of the smoker. It probably won't see dangerous temperatures, and the amount of gas produced will most likely be super insignificant Especially since he cooked it in the oven. I would agree to not put it inside the cooker...
