    Got my Vieluxe, now what??

I’m going to punt on this fix for now. The remaining welds feel sturdy enough I hope. Taking a half day this afternoon to finish reassembling the grill. TODAY’s GOAL: do the initial burnoff tonight!!!!

    Got my Vieluxe, now what??

Here is weight of the 3 grates. I wonder how they compare to Dave Santana grates. 3 clean grates: EDIT: see post #111 for correct weight of 3 grates: https://tvwbb.com/threads/got-my-vieluxe-now-what.89945/post-1018170

    Got my Vieluxe, now what??

I thought about this too, but feel like there’s some unwritten code prohibiting drilling into the holy grill, like bad juju to polish a rare coin. Maybe I should learn to weld to preserve the heritage of the grill.

    Got my Vieluxe, now what??

Thank you. I am getting schooled myself. I discovered the hood weighs as much as a bag of quikcrete:

    Got my Vieluxe, now what??

I am discovering the Vieluxe has an Achilles Heel too. I am not sure how the Summit grate rails are mounted, in the Vieluxe, they are welded to the firebox. Two rails, 8 welds a piece for 16 total. Fifty percent have failed, mostly the welds on the ends. The rails are bowed downwards and...

How does the shelf that holds grates/flavo bars attach to the gen 1 Summit cookbox?

    Got my Vieluxe, now what??

Bill, if you need to shoot amovie with a Vieluxe, I can play this guy: Although, unlike this guy, I can’t have my back to the grill; or ignore it so I can listen to whatever jibber jabber his teenage daughter is saying.

    Got my Vieluxe, now what??

3 pieces of stainless, welded together. I tried to tilt and lift it out like @LMichaels suggested, but need a engine hoist like @Ed Pinnell reckons

    Got my Vieluxe, now what??

Your question reminded me to register the grill. I tried selecting Summit but it can’t match serial number. I’ll call Weber, will be my first time.

    Got my Vieluxe, now what??

Thanks Jeff. You are actually not late, I initially hosted the party in the wrong forum, posted under “Buy/Sell/Trade Grills” which is where I spent most of my time looking for a Vieluxe.

    Got my Vieluxe, now what??

Igniters dead. Burners were clogged, but functioning. Rotis and SB looked hardly used. One weird thing was I was able to unscrew SB gas line fitting with 2 fingers. Tags says 126,000 BTU. I believe you calculated that a 20lb tank has about 430,000 BTUs...

    Got my Vieluxe, now what??

Movers had 8ft trailer with ramp to unload grill. Unfortunately, each wheel was either flatsided or seized from rubber debanding from plastic core due to age. It was figuratively and literally limping in. As replacements, I ordered polyurethane on polypropylene core but upgraded to ball bearing...

    Got my Vieluxe, now what??

According to Chris Allingham’s writeup which includes the link to the Vieluxe brochure, the 56” version weighs in at: 440lbs Perhaps Amazon adds 260lbs of: Seriously, after I dragged the Vieluxe down the driveway, my first rehab purchase was ibuprofen. The second was ball bearing caster...

    Got my Vieluxe, now what??

In contrast to the fully dressed form, this is the nearly naked skeleton underneath the Vieluxe (I’ve had no success lifting out the heavy heavy firebox): Getting a bath: The leg and fat ankles: The underbelly (notice how the igniter cable is tucked neatly, care and pride taken during...

I I see your logic of keeping my working Gennie. Large+jumbo grill is ultimate combo. I must make more friends and family to justify this.

    Got my Vieluxe, now what??

Thanks a lot Bruce, a more upbeat perspective for me to adopt. If I do revive it, it may end up killing me instead. Earlier, I said there were a few bolts and nuts missing. One missing nut belonged to a bolt that holds the front of the sideburner down to the frame. Without it, a fully loaded...
