True, I did that with my other 2 Webers. Being the model is only 2 years Old, it's still hard to tell how it will hold up. Replacing parts before the three years doesn't show what will happen afterwards

I agree with you Charlie , sensor should be on long side, and it should also be FLUSH with the hopper metal. Any protrusion will cause pellets to stick on top of the sensor and not drop down properly.
