    Upgrading from 4.0 to 4.2

I'm lazy, really lazy, and I also hate desoldering. I ended up not reusing my LCD from the 4.0 and picked up a new one, to avoid cursing at trying to de-solder the old LCD. Other than that, reused my ATMega and RPi - disconnected the RPi from the 4.0, mated up to 4.2, and voila. Everything came...

    HeaterMeter Hardware v4.2.4

It looks good now. No big deal really, if I had been paying attention I would not have soldered that to the wrong spot!! Funny how speedily I can solder things securely but removal.... fun fun :) Thanks for everything

    HeaterMeter Hardware v4.2.4

Sorry if this has been discussed - I looked around (quickly) and didn't see. I think the Mouser parts list has the labels crossed up on these parts: Qty Value Device Parts 4 BS170 BS170 Q1, Q2, Q4, Q5 1 MCP1700-33 MCP1700-33 IC4 It has qty 1 of q1,2,4,5 and qty 4 of ic4. Qty right just the...

Heatermeter on UDS, my PID settings

Yeah, I try and minimize lid open time.. too long and it goes thermonuclear on me sometimes

Heatermeter on UDS, my PID settings

I've never had the ball valve or lid vent closed either - just doing a test run with an empty smoker so I assume that plays a role. No big cold food to suck up some heat..

Heatermeter on UDS, my PID settings

Looks like I need a damper. It's really windy out and I never have problems with temps staying above 225 but I seem to be today.. Temp floating around 230F with no fan on for almost 2 hours. Still doing a trial run but closed up the ball valve and lid vent a little to choke it up and get the...

Heatermeter on UDS, my PID settings

I'll get them to you later, Marlin. They did get a little worse for me and I ended up changing them slightly. I need to do a test cook when home to nail down the settings. I was putting ribs/burnt ends in/out when I was awake so my data isn't great as far as PID tuning... going to try to do a...

    Upgrading from 4.0 to 4.2

For my 4.0 to 4.2, I am just reusing the Raspberry Pi, LCD, and ATMega .. ordered everything else fresh. Especially since the ATMega was backordered (from the one place I checked). The rest is not worth pulling off considering the cost.

Heatermeter on UDS, my PID settings

Parts Differential between HM 4.0 and 4.2.4

+1 on what Ralph and Bryan said. I will be reusing the ATMega and LCD from my 4.0 on the 4.2.4 I ordered, so, I just removed them from the Mouser project.

    Post your live HeaterMeter Cooks

Thanks, John. I have some peppers to smoke, and some burnt ends. Just a matter of PEBKAC here for me, I'll get it stable eventually.. really appreciate your input! This fan is a 15.3 cfm

    Post your live HeaterMeter Cooks

First real cook where I am not playing with something and just left the HM alone on its own and went to bed. Gotta do some PID tuning it seems :) UDS Bias:4 Prop:1 Int: .005 D:20 max fan: 100%

Heatermeter on UDS, my PID settings

Thanks for the contributors to this thread. Currently have this on my UDS, and was happy with the results. Was doing a lot of playing with probes and settings during the last cook, so, I'll have a "clean" run in a few days with HM only. Bias: 4 Prop: 1 Integral: .005 Deriv: 20 100% max fan speed

Looking for Maverick probe thermistor data table

New values worked good for me. Popped them in towards the end of a brisket cook and let the HM do its thing, and, I was happy with the results. Also fired it up to do some burnt ends the next day and had good accuracy between all of my probes on the HM (2 mavericks, 1 CDN), the analog gauge on...
