    General 3D Printing Thread

My only concern with the deltaprinter design is that it uses fishing line as the transfer from the steppers to the head. 65lb test, but you could get some stretch/wear/etc. Hopefully they've accounted for that in the design. There's another delta printer that's been in production for a while...

    sous vide thread

If you already have a heatermeter, you could spend $20-30 & have one that can not only control, but do the PID control + WIFI monitoring.

    General Raspberry Pi thread...

between receiving the Pi & getting the heatermeter board populated, i tried out RaspBMC & it worked well. I have 2 boxee boxes as my media players, but eventually will turn to another solution as boxee is dead. i've never really liked the XBMC interface & never took the time to tweak it to my...

    Pit probe problem

If you're using ET732 probes & 10k resistors, you'll get ''no pit probe'' at room temperature. Warm them up to ~90*F & they will work. You can either A) deal with it or B) change the 4x 10k resistors to ~22k. My ET73 probes work fine down to 32*F, my ET732 probes say --no pit probe-- until...

1st time power up - garbage on LCD display

1st guess would be the flash didn't take. Did the Rpi boot? Can you access the web config? If so, you can try to re-flash the HM. If not, can you see the Rpi on the network? (check your router info). I think the 1st thing I'd do is re-image the SD card & start over.

Ok I think I like this one, wonder what it will cost?

I read $60 somewhere today. I'm sticking with my beaglebone, assuming the OS & bonescript get an update soon. Learning a lot, but not accomplishing anything useful because I'm fighting things that should be built-in.

Probes do not make a great connection / drop out (Maverick ET-73)

In addition to what Ralph said, the 732 probes will also act funny at room temperature (heatermeter will show them disconnected). Put them in some boiling water & see if they read 212* Mine will randomly show correct temp or disconnected below ~90*. If you will use 732 probes exclusively, you...

HMMM, how to get $1300 in office supplies approved :)

    Javascript questions unrelated to HM

I'm trying to control a mcp23017 I/O expander from my beaglebone using the built-in bonescript library. I'm having a hard time finding an example I can hack up that does what I want to do. I'd greatly appreciate a point in the right direction. I basically want to set all the ports to output &...

    The Development Log

Very clean & modern looking. I like this vs current homepage, but I'm a form follows function guy, not an artist (stick people are fine with me...) Config on-page would be nice as well.

Devils Advocate: Mega2560 or MB/DB combo

Couldn't you do this now? A page (app?, seems like the correct word here) that displays data from different heatermeters in a single page? Can't you connect to the data, rather than the webserver (or parse the data & re-format it however you pleaes)? Something like how PidDroid connects, but...

    What does flashing do?

The ATMega on the HM board is a mini-computer in it's own right. It does the measurement, fan % calculation, PID control etc. It sends data to the RasPi, which then does the graphing, webpage server etc. When you 'flash', you overwrite the OS on the ATMega AVR by sending info from the RasPi...

    PID Settings

That's really similar to what other people are doing - bowl & toggle bolt through a hole. I have a big steel keg, basically the same design as a big green egg. I have a sliding door for my intake. I made a plate with a square hole in it the same size as the fan outlet, then cut/bent up a...

    PID Settings

Keep it simple. Don't add another variable until you get it working with the fan. Temp dropping with 100% fan output isn't because of the HM (I'm looking specifically at the 4:42 section of your graph). The HM works WITH a well-regulated grill/smoker, it doesn't fix one that isn't running...

    PID Settings

I don't think PID settings are your issue, looks more like airflow with or without the fan. You need to have control of the system before the PID can do it's thing. You may be choking the fire, as it looks like temp is dropping at 100% fan before opening the lid. If I keep the top vent closed...

    General 3D Printing Thread

I feel for you, tried 123D for about 10 minutes, even after thinking browser based design was a bad idea. I'd think that the people who invented AutoCAD & basically have the same GUI for the last 20yrs would be able to figure out how to make something intuitive... I wonder if my copy of...

    General 3D Printing Thread

Each & every one of my harebrained ideas over the last 8 years (since college) have been hatched while on conference calls, before that, alcohol was to blame. The amount of money & time spent due to conference calls is staggering. I actually built my HM while listening in on a call. Forgot to...

    Heat Spike and Fan Question

I have about 80% of the fan intake covered with foil tape on my Big Steel Keg, in addition to every edge of the lower vent being sealed with tape. Without that, natural leakage keeps me above 225*....

    Error sending data

Depending on the revision, you could REALLY upgrade that router with DDWRT or Tomato firmware. I have 2 older than dirt wrt54g routers still chugging along, the only reason they aren't my main router is that I needed to move up to 1Gb to transfer DVD & BluRay rips between PC & server.

    Pit Probe Polarity Problem

In my never-ending quest to prove that anything can be broken if you are dumb enough, I pulled the wires out of the jack on my ET-732 pit probe. I bought ET-73 probes for the HM, but I'd like to keep using hte 732, so I need to fix it. I have a generic 2.5mm mono plug, might grab a stereo plug...
