    General 3D Printing Thread

Have you seen this? http://voltivo.com/forum/davinci-hwmods/41-squeaking-and-or-circles-aren-t-round-check-this-56k-warn#276 I wouldn't think it'd be inherent in the design, probably mfg tolerance or something wonky in the movement. I think I'm going to grab one, but i'll wait till christmas...

Using servo to control gas grill valve?

What more reason do you need? A heatermeter is a completely unnecessary solution for a minor problem. Grog cooked his mastodon over direct flame how many years ago?, pretty sure he didn't have a smartphone to tell him when it was done. But its freaking awesome & we can. so we do.

    General 3D Printing Thread

Anybody got an opinion on the daVinci 1.0 ? For $500, it looks like a good start. I've already found how to defeat the need for cartridges & how to put Repetier FW. I'd be willing to spend more to get more, but I don't think I could put together parts for 700 to do what the daVinci is capable...

    Pre-built unit?

OK, I have 1 more week off work. I will offer 2-3 people soldering services, even if it carries over the week. Send me the parts + a shipping label/$ for a shipping label, I'll ship you a working HM. I have a 4.0, but I'm sure I can do 4.2 (including SMD, i've soldered 0603 components) I...

Reminded why I need a servo

Not much of a bummer, still makes great food, just not pretty graphs for bragging rights. I've got too much time on my hands right now too, so I'm trying a few things & have time to ***** about good food :) I had a laptop open & pitdroid on the alarms, didn't need to intervene. I think the...

Reminded why I need a servo

Rock solid, just 20* above set temp.... I didn't seal the bottom vent with tape today, but I did restrict the flow through the fan by 2/3 (which is why it took so long to get up to temp). This is actually below where I can usually run steadily w/the HM. After attaching the fan, I moved the Keg...

    Pre-built unit?

After Thursday I'll know how long I'm off work for. If it's a week or 2, and I think it will be, I'll take on a couple soldering jobs for those who need it. I'm bored now & have an 80% 4.0 board to work on, might as well do some for others. I won't take payment, we'll work out how to handle...

4.1 in SMD - It can be done!

I think the argument for SMD is cost, either for the DIY or commercial aspect (if Bryan chooses to sell some, which I think he could). The learning curve is steeper, but it's not THAT steep. An hour on youtube & an hour of practice and you can SMT solder. If you've never done through-hole, I...

PitDroid: An Android app for your HeaterMeter

My DSL router had the NAT loopback option, but it didn't work. Crappy Verizon firmware.

PitDroid: An Android app for your HeaterMeter

I had this exact issue & never found a 2-address solution - turned my ISP router into a modem-only & used my ASUS w/NAT loopback & all works well. It may not be a solution for you, but it's not really a bug in the app, it's standard networking gear not respecting standards.... If you own your...

HeaterMeter project / tindie on hold

I don't know what to say, but you have my condolences. I just read the article, sounds like he went out with his boots on, at least. I know that doesn't help now, but you can remember the great times. I just got a new lease on life (brain surgery), so I'm gonna say don't forget your friends &...

Question about port fowarding and multiple IP address

Your internal network is the big issue, you have 3 or 4 different networks with firewalls keeping traffic separate that you don't want separated. You could have a ton of routing rules to cover what you ask, but if you had equipment with that capability & set it up properly, you wouldn't have...

Kamado Joe Classic - Do I need a damper?

TL:DR; you can get by w/just the fan, but the HM works better with a damper. Especially on efficient kamados. I have a keg as well & no damper - I can't run reliably below 275*. At 275-300, it's rock solid. Even sealing the fan intake off as much as possible, it allows too much flow (through...

Went to a BBQ bash in the Chicago area today, demostrated the Heatermeter.

As well it should. It makes me look like an (evil) genius & all I did was put it together.

Ordered all parts - what else do I need?

PCB? solder wick for errors flux for SMD parts some type of magnification to inspect SMD (and through hole)

    The Development Log

If your damper can only 'almost' get you there, you need the fan & should change your mode to fan + servo so that the HM can do what it does. What Bryan suggested above would then act like your "fan at max only" for startup. A PID system isn't really good at 'sometimes' cases - it is intended...

    Extra meat probes

I have this one on my beaglebone http://www.logicsupply.com/components/networking/wireless/uwn200/ it get's about the same as the RPi w/Edimax, but the BBB has some interference issues (Edimax is sketchy at any distance). It might be a bit better than the edimax, but not substantially. Tx...

    Electronics Help Please

Am I gonna have to be the first to suggest to reverse-engineer the keypad, ditch it & then hack a Heatermeter up to control your microwave via wifi? Jeez, ya'lls slipping. my first thought was solder - SMD-style. Put a small, SMALL, dab on your iron, then touch the pad & reflow the ribbon onto...

    Looking Forward: HeaterMeter LIVE

They don't, I suspect. Good enough is good enough. Your little piggy doesn't care if it's 225* or 230* or bouncing between the 2, this is for all the eggheads to worry about. HM is awesome for what it is & could be, but step back from the tinkering & enjoy the outcome. There's no PID...

    LinkMeter v11 and Firmware Beta

Put this on my 4.0 yesterday, upgrading from v6 or v7 or whatever was available last April when I built it & it solved my 732 probes not working until ~90* which meat 1-2 hours cooking on the meat probes...) I've got a 2nd 4.0 90% finished, but I'm going to build a 4.2 as soon as it's ready...
