Smokey Joe is an excellent grill

I think if you look back through some of the posts, the people who have trouble maintaining temperature are talking about the Gold model. It has a different vent setup (sides instead of bottom), which makes maintaining temperatures tricky. I'm almost ready to trade in my gold for a silver, or...

    weber smokey joe silver/gold

That's almost as cheap as the store... home depot usually carries the silver for around $25 or $30. People tell me that they can be found cheaper at the end of the season. I know you don't want to have to search craigslist, but I got a gold for $10 that way.

    Regulating temp for direct grilling

A lot of people (like me) use the bottom vents to regulate temperature. Open the vent for a hotter fire, close it partway to lower the temperature. Obviously, this only works when cooking with the lid on, so the fire doesn't get an unregulated amount of oxygen. Even so, I like to leave the...

    Cajun Bandit (Weber Grill Mod)

Best of both worlds, Mike. Leave the center section out, and you can still use the OTG as a grill, you just have to bend over to check it. Almost like a Smokey Joe Uranium or something.

I've been overthinking the same thing. If you're going to start modding a OTS (like I will as soon as the checking account recovers from my performer) to use a Guru with the bandit, why not just drill a dedicated port? Similar to the directions on the guru website for mounting on a kettle...

    Dissappointed in New 26" Kettle

Hey Pat, Feel like posting that comparison picture? I'm not in the market for a 26", but curious. It doesn't sound like a big size difference, but everyone who has gotten hands-on mentions how huge they are.

    Simple baked apple

Core and peel a granny smith apple. Melt one tablespoon of butter (per apple). Add a generous sprinkle of cinnamon (about 1/2 to 1 tsp) and about a tablespoon of brown sugar. Mix thoroughly, then combine with about 1/4 cup of raisins. Set the apple on a square of foil and use a spoon or...

I don't know about the itty-bitty water pan on the Smoke EZ, seems more like a drip pan than anything else. Robert: I had trouble seeing your picture. In case anyone else had the same trouble, I took the liberty of reposting...

Looks like my original thoughts about the vent cover were off. In an update, the OP says that it is aluminum stock he bent to fit.

Thanks for jumping in with reviews LDean and J. Key. I just stepped up to a performer, and I've been wondering what to do with my One Touch Silver. Chris, you might be getting an order from me in a month or so.

First cook on copper Smokey Joe Gold

I'm no collector, and if they sold them at Linens and Things they must be too common to be collectible, but I guess I can keep myself from drilling it. I'm not sure about using a silver for the ECB. My thought was to add the bottom vent to the gold, in case ash build up on a long smoke...

$10 on craigslist. Is it unusual enough that I should avoid drilling holes in it?

My German is pretty rusty but... "I modified my Weber somewhat. Now it draws perfectly and doesn't go out anymore." Then after the pics... "They have these plates at Ikea. I screwed one on and laid the other on top. This way everything that falls through comes out easily." Looking at his...

    Kettle lid

Has anyone else tried Thor's method? I recently stepped up to the Performer, and I kind of miss my slide aside for the clearance. Gary, if yours is sitting at 45 degrees, make sure the lid isn't catching on the top of the aluminum strap when you drop it in. Anyone figured out how to keep the...

    Silver to Gold

For those who have ordered the SJS bottom vent from Weber, how much did it cost? I'm trying to decide whether to go with new parts or salvage the Silver from craigslist.
