Old grill gets a new home (pics)

Tell me more about how the kettle meets the table. There seems to be something bolted or riveted to the kettle, but I can't quite make it out in the pictures...

    Imperial Sequoia

That's amazing! There can't be many of those left in the world.

    Performer on a deck

I guess I'm lucky that my new place doesn't have a deck. (Just bought my first house) I'm pretty sure the moss growing over my paver patio acts as an extra flame retardant.

    **My latest Cajun Bandit Mod**

I use a lot of visual confirmation (aka eyeballing it) to get the vent set right on my CB. Does the OTG ash catcher make that harder? Do you still use visuals, or mark the ash catcher at your favorite settings, or what? Also, it looks like your original charcoal bowl had a OTS ash catcher...

    British Copper Kettle

The copper finish is nice, it looks even better in person (I have the copper Smokey Joe). Now you have an excuse to visit your friend in London...

    cold smoker mod idea

Jim, how were you attaching the duct to your ECB lid and WSM door? I've thought about doing something similar with a smokey joe for a firebox and my old ECB as a smoke chamber.

    New Model?

They're pretty rare. Justin, I saw one on Boston CL about a year ago. I was too slow, but I'm surprised you didn't score it.

    Smokey Joe Vent Modification

I'm hoping to score a cheap or free SJS on craigslist this winter, so I don't talk myself into doing the same to my copper SJG. How long have you been posting at the wolfe pit? This is why Chris A. should let those who don't spam/abuse include a URL in their signature.

    questions about charcoal

I find that the competition burns a little hotter with less ash, and it definitely smells better than blue bag.

    questions about charcoal

What are you comparing it to? If you were using lump charcoal before, the Kingsford blue bag won't be as hot. If you give the bag a good shake, some black dust should come out, or if you dig around some should get on your hands. If there is any spongy or slimy feel to the charcoal and a lack...

18" WSM Stainless Steel Door Replacement

Agreed. They're a relatively new company, and the level of customer service puts them head and shoulders above the rest. And if anyone has doubts about their commitment to keeping us happy, check out posts by C. Perres. That's right, the founder/fabricator/rocket scientist behind CB is a...

    wsm ash catcher.

As a cajun bandit user, I have a totally different ash problem, but... I would think any kind of steel bowl or pan that fits below the vent wheels would work, with some bailing wire handles to fish it back out.

18" WSM Stainless Steel Door Replacement

Did you install your eyelets yet? If so, give us a pic. I have a set sitting around I haven't installed yet. It's on my to-do list for after the snow flies.

18" WSM Stainless Steel Door Replacement

Among other things, the CB guys read a lot of the popular BBQ forums. Our word of mouth is their best marketing, so I'm willing to bet they'll make it right for you. I had a little mixup when I ordered my bandit, and they called to straighten it out right away. If you read through some of the...

    Kenmore/Weber Kettle

Since this obsession took hold, I've learned a lot from browsing the Weber schematics. But not as much as I've learned from these forums.

    Kenmore/Weber Kettle

I believe the Weber Economy Kettle was offered until the past couple of years for our Euro/Aussie friends, but has since been replaced by the Compact Kettle (with external ash pan). See this thread: http://tvwbb.infopop.cc/eve/fo...280015374#1280015374 for discussion, or this thread...

    Weber Family Portraits

As long as we're hurling accusations of mad science... Jim (Bloomfield): is that a side burner mounted in your performer table? Sweet all around: chopped and dropped kettle, clean install on the ring for the LP tank, and whatever is hiding under the stainless cover.

Any expert advice for my new CajunBandit?

Mac: I have my CB on a one touch silver. Pat's right, you just barely have to crack the bottom vent, like 10% or less. I leave the top vent open.
