2001 Silver C rehab/ how to ( or how not to) dye plastic grill parts

I would also want the plastic pieces to be suspended off of the bottom, I worry that they might melt if in contact with the bottom of the pot.

2001 Silver C rehab/ how to ( or how not to) dye plastic grill parts

Branden, It is a SS pot that was made for me by a gentleman that I once knew when I lived in Wisconsin (not Bruce). I told him that I needed a SS pot because I was in to brewing my own beer and needed a big pot for the boil. He made this for me, but it wasn't functional for my needs. 25 years...

2001 Silver C rehab/ how to ( or how not to) dye plastic grill parts

If its plastic, holds water and is big enough, it should work. I just went to home depot and bought the biggest plastic storage bin that they had.

2001 Silver C rehab/ how to ( or how not to) dye plastic grill parts

Branden, I buy citric acid in bulk anywhere I can find it, usually in the powder form because it dissolves easier. Doesn't need to be food grade, industrial bulk cleaning citric acid is fine. 1/4 cup acid to a gallon of water. The hard part was finding a container that would fit the frame...

2001 Silver C rehab/ how to ( or how not to) dye plastic grill parts

I think that the problem was with the High Heat clear gloss spray that I put on the handle. I got some of that stickiness that you described. For some reason, it seems that it never really cured on the plastic handle? The side end caps which I dyed black were originally coated with the ceramic...

2001 Silver C rehab/ how to ( or how not to) dye plastic grill parts

I p I put a coat of the ceramic clear coat, Cerakote, on the handle only this time. It gives it a nice gloss look which I am hoping can stand up to the heat and the cover. Not on the knobs or the switches though. On those I put a coat of 303 automotive protectant for the UV benefits.

Thanks Jason, I went overboard with the dye thing and thought that adding an accent color to the brackets would make the black rocker switches stand out even more.

2001 Silver C rehab/ how to ( or how not to) dye plastic grill parts

So, it has been almost a month since I did the restoratation on my Silver C. I did the dye technique on the gray plastic end caps and handle and really like them being black. The end caps were treated with a ceramic clear coat product, Cerakote. No problems so far and they look great and have...

Yes, I was going to mention in my last post, that you will end up rendering these friction clips useless once you pry them off. I would recommend using the high heat gasket maker adhesive technique that others have described in this form for reattaching the emblem onto the lid. It’s much easier

I have used the razor scraper once I am done using it for cleaning the inside lid. Carefully wedge it under the clip to get it loose enough to the wedge something more substantial like a screw driver of old knife. Careful with the razor, they will break if you use too much force.

Hood Rust...Could this be more than surface rust on the Blue top?

I think the Silvers were all just the 5 flavorizer bar models, not the deep fire box like the 1000's.
