    General 3D Printing Thread

Hello all, I have a friend who is trying to print me the case but is having issues every time. He says that the edges are jagged and it tends to lift up just past the half mark. He's tried everything from hairspray to masking tape to his heated bed to using another 3d printer (same design), but...

Setting up HM for multiple Networks

Hello Everyone, long time no see. I am looking to set up my heatermeter so that I can use it on my home wifi, but also set up my phone's wifi on the road then just use my tablet to access it. Is this possible with the OpenWRT software? Thanks -MK

    HM case ideas

This design is really nice! Do you happen to have more information about the waterproof connections that you used? I have a hard time finding those -Michael

How vital/useful is heatermeter on wsm?

To the the HM is invaluable no matter what smoker I have. The reason that it is invaluble is because I can trust the HM to take care of the temperature while I sleep. No matter how good you get with a smoker there are always variations in your fire, temp, humidty etc. You can not control that...

HeaterMeter project / tindie on hold

Bryan, I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my mom 3 months ago and I know the next few months will be tough. I know that I do not know you or your friend but I am sure that he is proud that you will be the successor to him. Don't worry about the HM community, you have created something that...

Running HM off of a battery (a review)

Thanks for the review! I hope to be heavily involved in the same thing in the coming weeks. I'm trying to make my HM "portable" for use inside the house (monitoring oven and food temps). I'm trying to make a small enough form factor that it is not cumbersome to use. Thanks again and I hope to...

    No Communication Issues

Ha Ha, yes, that is certainly correct. I took Dave's advice and just snipped it out. I checked the VCC after and it is 3.3V! I checked the other 2 voltages as well and I got 3.3 on one but on the switching one I got 0 and never got 3.3. I powered it up through the Pi again and I have...

    No Communication Issues

THanks, I'm assuming it could still cause the issue? Also will things work if some of those are installed? I was wondering if that would leave something open and possibly cause noise.

    No Communication Issues

Well darn, don't know how I missed that. Actually IIRC I had it in and it fell out and I wasn't careful when I put it back in. Is the shift register necessary for operation without an LCD and LEDs? If it is I'll likely be ordering a new one to make the install easier. Thanks, -MK

    No Communication Issues

I looked over the area. the only place that could be touching is the 2 below the last e in HeaterMeter. I'm 95% sure those are not touching either, but I think those are be connected in the board anyways.

    No Communication Issues

Just for the record, I get this when trying to update the firmware. Connecting to capnbry.net (IP stuff taken out in case it matters) hm.hex 23% |******* | 15702 0:00:03 ETA hm.hex 100% |*******************************| 66209 0:00:00 ETA...

    No Communication Issues

That is from powering it through the Raspberry Pi. I took Bryan's advice and did it through that first. When it didn't work I decided putting 12 V to the system may not be the best idea. I just went back through the entire assembly process and i couldn't find anything that was obviously wrong...

    No Communication Issues

I just checked and I can clearly see that the BS170s are in the right position. Its hard to read the MCP1700-33 but unless its just the wrong component it was the only water tower I had left :) Grabbed a flash light, it says 1700 3302e TO (something) 3238k6 Solder looks fine to me there as well.

    No Communication Issues

Hello All, I started building my first HeaterMeter this weekend. I got it started up and all the software installed. However upon connection (5V to Pi) I could not see any temp data. I checked and I had no communication. I tried to update the firmware but got a fuse error (I beleive) Based on...

    HM 4.2.4 3D Printed Case

Hey Tom, I am working on a screenless, buttonless version of the heatermeter. Why, I don't know but that's what I decided. I was wondering if you have developed this based on measuring the heatermeter or if you actually have a HM model you work off of.

    Heater Meter Waterproofing Ideas

I will go ahead and bring my old thread from the grave. With the implementation of the thermocouple I am finally ready to tale the plunge. I ordered an HM with the thermocouple pre-soldered yesterday. Going with a button-less display-less what parts will I not have to order. Obviously I will...

    Heater Meter Waterproofing Ideas

Ahh, okay. That also shouldn't be an issue for me because I tote the egg in and out for every cook. It looks to me that this will be fairly easy to implement. Looks like its time to start ordering parts! If anyone has other waterproof box ideas (or see one you liked) I would love to see it...
