Setting a team up/ how many assistants?

If I have a box runner, I'm a happy guy. Meats are prepped at home and the Stoker minds the cookers while I sleep. Last year I had a guy start helping me at a couple of events and it worked out well. The last comp I cooked he brought a friend and it still work well, but I had to think harder...

Are temp control systems worth it?

If you have a cooker that doesn't have a lot of air leaking into the fire then temp control systems work. And they work well. Most people that have issues with them have air coming in from somewhere besides the systems blower. A WSM can be as tight as a drum, or leaky as a sieve. But with a...

Who's the new 'posterboy' for (the Stoker) Rock's Barbque?

Thanks Vince. I actually didn't mention it after the one time last year. John contacted me about another project he is looking at in the future, and he offered. Of course, I jumped on it.

Who's the new 'posterboy' for (the Stoker) Rock's Barbque?

I guess this is out there for common knowledge (it's on their website now anyway)... go to Rock's barbque . Then select "Luminaries", then scroll through the pages to #7 of 9.... Happy to join forum member Vincent Carrocci as a "Luminary".

    Pop-Up Tents

You can get a EZ-Up at Sam's or a Caravan at Costco... Both around the $200 price. The best canopy out there is probably "Impact", but they are pricy.

I've got three Foodsavers. (partially because I live in two locations) The last one I bought (right before Christmas) was the FoodSaver GameSaver Outdoorsman Gift Set. (GameSaver) I got it because you can use it with AC or DC power. There are times when it would be handy at competitions. (and...

4 meat comp plan with these cookers?

I've cooked KCBS contests on two 18.5" WSMs and ended up in the top 5, so it can be done with minimal equipment. I'd plan on the butts and brisket on the WSM and have them off in time to do the ribs... do the chicken on the kettle. Have the smokey joe with you (just in case).

For those of you that can't get Cheerwine... Cherry Dr.Pepper would be the closest thing I know of. But it still wouldn't be the same.
