    How's this for a low-cfm bbq fan?

I just got one of these fans delivered....I thought, "how bad could it be?....maybe it will work well!"....wouldn't have to 3d print and the barrel looks like a metal type material I only need low cfms....and it blows some low-cfm air. I'll open it up and see if I need or can easily change the...

The Adapt-a-Damper - Open Source Project

looks great! One of my ideas is to "cram" a nodemcu/arduino mini or even just the esp8266 chip and mini within a small fan design enclosure. No display/buttons but will be controlled via wifi (local or internet, or bluetooth when their new chip comes).... thanks for sharing...

Espress for HeaterMeter Module (wifi with no Pi/Linkmeter needed)

very cool!! I've also found a 'workaround' that lets thingspeak host the entire dashboard js file within.....so you won't need a hosting/website for the dashboard! keep us posted on your first-cook with it.....

    Anyone tried this fan?

for my 'custom' HM builds I'm planning on using 5v fans....I agree that my needs are low -cfms. I picked up some brushless blowers like these 5v, 4cfm (140ma) for $2/each from ali.... I'm planning on running the entire HM/fan off 5v so I can see how long it runs with those standard 5v phone...

Espress for HeaterMeter Module (wifi with no Pi/Linkmeter needed)

based on the openwrt html file, if TRM=3 then it sets the resistor to 5....so try setting resistor to 5 as well and see if that works? Bryan will need to step in if that doesn't work and let me know what settings are for TC.... btw.....did you get the thingspeak setup with the dashboard...

Espress for HeaterMeter Module (wifi with no Pi/Linkmeter needed)

it's isn't documented but I'm guessing to set to thermocouple you set TRM field to 3 for TC, and set the (c) resistor to the m/c Internal is TRM=1 so you might have to setup that. I'll make it into a drop down list in future once I know all the possible values... let me know if that works...

New Pi Zero $5 stripped down RasPi

after thinking about it....I still think the CHIP is a better value once you factor in the SDcard, wifi/bluetooth. unless you need the hdmi connection for your project...CHIP makes more sense. BUT CHIP is still an unknown because it hasn't shipped and who knows, the pI is proven and will have...

Espress for HeaterMeter Module (wifi with no Pi/Linkmeter needed)

Hi All...wanted to get a separate/dedicated thread for the Espress module that I wrote software for to work with HeaterMeter. It uses the esp8266 wifi chip (with also has a nice processor/ram/flash that can be programmed). I used NodeMCU currently because it's easier to work/flash with...but...

    Different HeaterMeter hardware ideas

status update....I tried my first cook with my HM custom built UNO (arduino clone). I ended up making my own UNO custom shield that had the esp12(nodemcu board) and the connections for thermistors and fan control on it.... and it went really well. Pit temp and fan worked fine and the internet...

    Different HeaterMeter hardware ideas

ESP part was done with Arduino IDE.... Getting it to work on the Nano was the easy part....it just worked. The only thing I had to change in HM code was to get the standard lc1605 lcd/button shield to work. This is the shield I got working: Don't know how you want to handle the code changes...

    Different HeaterMeter hardware ideas

Progress!!! no linkmeter or raspberry pi needed!! Just an update....I've pretty much got all software parts working, hardware on breadboard and working as well (probes, lcd(cheap), and buttons...). I have an ESP-12e board with an Arduino Nano(clone) working together....(along with the lcd...

    Thermoworks probes on sale!!!

I have both the a TX-1003X and TX-1004X, I haven't used them with HM yet, but i've tested their resistance at different temps and they are different....so the defaults won't work for my probes, and each will need different values. Does anyone have 'good' values for the 1003x and 1004x that...

    Different HeaterMeter hardware ideas

Thanks for the info Bryan....I'm jumping into the source code already, I've actually tried an arduino UNO(clone) with the $3 lcd/buttons shield and with a little 'hacking' of the HM code I was able to get LCD fully functioning with the buttons as well! I've had good success(luck?) with...

    Different HeaterMeter hardware ideas

the esp8266(wi-fi adapter) is an awesome piece of tech. it plugs into the uart(pins) on the atmega board. Ita a mini wifi card/webserver (with a much faster processor/ram than the atmega actually). I know that'd I'd have to probably make a few webpage forms that will update the settings for...

    Different HeaterMeter hardware ideas

"winter is coming"....tis the season for a DIY project, and I've been looking at doing a controller for my smoker for a long while. After doing my research I'd have to say that heaterMeter is a great project...source code looks good. But I wanted to 'change' things up....in the interest of...
