    What Brand Hot Dogs?

While on vacation I ate some hotdogs from a street vendor which really had some SNAP to them and I'd like to find something similar. What's everyone's opinion on which tasty dogs have a real crunch when you bite into them?

    Charcoal only griller

I did exactly that. I owned a dilapidated gas grill that I replaced with a new Performer a little over a month ago and not once have I missed the gasser. The gas assist on the Performer fires the coals up in a hurry and if I'm just tossing on some dogs and a couple burgers then I just use less...

    New Performer Owner

I cooked an 8lb beer-can chicken this past weekend using indirect heat (don't forget to put the drip pan in between the baskets)at 375* for two hours and it came out beautifully. I removed the hinged grate and cooked bird-zilla on the lower grate. I also alum foiled the fronts of the two...

Another vote for keeping the charcoal in its bag and in the bin with no problems. Actually, it's usually two bags - one bag of Stubbs and one bag of Kingsford.

Lot's of folk here, including myself, are big fans of Stubbs natural charcoal. I use it mostly for long burns, like a roast chicken or pork roast. It definitely heats a little cooler but longer - and leaves a lot less ash than other brands. And it's on sale for $5 a bag at Lowes right now...

    New Performer Owner

Welcome to the show Tim. What color Performer did you score? I use the baskets for both direct and indirect cooking. I find that the charcoals light just fine with the coals in the baskets. Once lit, I move them to the sides of the grill using tongs. I leave the charcoal right in the baskets...

    Cover for older Performer

I ran across one for $45 at a hardware store in Woodstock NY this past weekend. I'm looking for the newer-model Performer cover though so I took a pass.

    charcoal scoop

The $3.99 feed scoop I picked up at Tractor Supply works great. One full scoop fills one of the fuel baskets perfectly. No fuss, no muss.

I think you're onto something, Shaun. Perhaps I can affix a handle of some sort onto a large coffee can. Hmmmm....

    charcoal scoop

Seems to me like there should be some sort of dispenser-type devise....or maybe tong-like. Or maybe I'm over thinking this.

    charcoal scoop

Laughing - yeah that would work I guess but these 20lb bags are kinda heavy and I ain't as young as I use to be. Plus I'd have to have pretty good aim in order to hit those little baskets.

    charcoal scoop

What are you using to scoop the charcoal out of the bag? I've just been grabbing it with my hands but I'm thinking there must be some sort of scoop that works well.

    Performer match holder

Well - its suppose to function as a dual match-holder (in case the starter fails to light) burner cleaner (which were suppose to do at least once each season). I guess to clear the cobwebs that might form in the burner during the "off season" whenever that is.

Wow! I'm WAY outta my league here. Nice work, Jen.

    Performer match holder

Does anyone know where the match holder/cleaning tool suppose to reside when not in use? I just have it hangin off the tool rack for now.

Here's my mug at camp doing a little grouse hunting this past fall. I'll update the picture once I catch some fish.
