    That storm is coming our way this afternoon. The tides are extra high due to astronomical conditions and waves coming to shore along New Brunswick will be breaking at 3-5m (10-15ft) on shore combined with the tide will produce coastal flooding. I'm in southeastern Nova Scotia.

    A teaspoon of Cure #1 contains only 6.25% sodium nitrate. The rest is salt. It's not enough to kill you. A teaspoon of pure sodium nitrate on the other hand would harm you severely.

    Try a dry equalization cure. Your input salt amount is what you end up with. I do a 2% input and my end result is never too salty. Follow the listed "recipe" with 2% salt and 1% sugar. I guarantee it won't be too salty and you will really like. https://www.makinbacon.net/eq-curing

    Grew up in Sherwood Park. Where do you live? There was only one Christmas Eve that had no snow. We had a tradition of playing road hockey every Christmas Eve. Remember playing at -35c one year but the rum and coke was a good antifreeze!

    How thick is the ice on the lakes? It must be messing up the ice fishing. I'm in the maritimes now but we have a family cabin up at Cold Lake and I remember drilling through 3 feet of ice fishing over the Christmas holidays!
