New Q1200 enameled two piece grate. Improvement or?

1000/1200 - newer two piece grate, has a griddle that replaces the grate on one side only. I bet the larger #6504 griddle that just sits on top of the grate would work fine. 100/120 - older style single piece grate.

New Q1200 enameled two piece grate. Improvement or?

Walt; weber sells a #6504 griddle that fits the q100/120. I have one that we use a couple times a month and am very happy with it. It probably has more total surface area than the split grate.

    Q220 No tLighting

Look on the sticker on the back, what is the first two digits? We can tell you if it's under warranty.

    Q220 No tLighting

As a last ditch effort, remove the burner so you can access the orifice on the regulator. Use a paper clip to make sure it's clear. Tap on the regulator to see if you can unstick the diaphragm. I would also call weber, unlikely nowadays but maybe they would comp a regulator for you.

Snake Method vs. The Minion Method

Minion all the way for me. Use firebricks as a heat diffuser and to add mass and you're good to go. Snake/fuse is great if you're having trouble with vent settings. But it also allows more air through the grill since your temp is primarily controlled by limiting fuel rather than air. It also...

    Remove 1200 side tables?

I would but don't have the 5 minutes to jump through hoops to make pics work on this site.. Basically it's a tel tru bbq100 thermometer, installed through a carefully drilled a hole in the lid using a good metal bit. Much easier to drill through the aluminum compared to the steel/porcelain...

    Remove 1200 side tables?

It's also very easy to add a dome thermometer to a q1000. That's what I did, as I specifically didn't want the taller lid of the 1200.

George, what exactly happened in your situation?

    1200 w/Stand for $120!?

I actually use our q100 fairly often for small, quick cooks. But, it wouldn't be a good permanent grill unless you only cook burgers and chicken. Indirect requires some work with trays and foil. In a $100-$200 range I suggest keeping an eye on Craigslist for a genesis silver a/b or spirit. I...

    1200 w/Stand for $120!?

For one, that is not a q1200 or even a q120. No thermometer in the lid and piezo igniter means it's probably a q100 with the optional tables added. In my area I wouldn't pay more than $70 for it. You can add a good tru tel thermometer for about $25. As far as the q limitations.. It's a...

Frame is not part of the 'plastic warranty'?

I called back and found someone who knew what was going on. Apparently it is flagged as only 2 year warranty but he had a manager approve a swap out. Still a very different experience compared to a few years ago.

    Spirit E-310 + GrillGrates = Good Choice?

Also, these older style genesis silver/golds have an entire tray for the bottom that slides right out. Not just the drip pan but the entire bottom part of the grill under the burners. It makes messy clean up extremely simple.. Anytime I cook fish I slide it out, scrape out chunks, and rinse it off.

    Spirit E-310 + GrillGrates = Good Choice?

Brock; check out this thread of my genesis project. I have maybe $200 and 6 hours in it and it cooks better than a spirit. Has no problems getting to 600f and has HD thick stainless grates. Doing indirect with one burner I can also cook at 250f. If you're even remotely handy it is a great...

    Spirit E-310 + GrillGrates = Good Choice?

Something else I thought of, the Q grate/burner design doesn't cater well to messy cooking. Since there are no flavorizer bars a lot of the drippings get directly on the burners. If you're pouring marinades and cheese through the grates of the Q you'll probably need to clean the burner holes a...

Frame is not part of the 'plastic warranty'?

The retention clip ledge on the frame where the ignitor button clips in is broken, just from normal use. I figured no big deal, the grill is about 2 years old. Call weber and was told no... That when the warranty says plastic parts it is only talking about the thermoset tables. I said I...

    Spirit E-310 + GrillGrates = Good Choice?

I just noticed you're allowed charcoal.... I would go with a Q for quick cooks and veggies, even a single burner q2000 would be sufficient, and a 22.5" performer for weekends and when you have guests.

    Spirit E-310 + GrillGrates = Good Choice?

My personal opinion is spirit < q3200 < genesis. Before buying a spirit I would hunt down a good condition genesis silver/gold and do this: http://tvwbb.com/showthread.php?57311-Converting-a-Genesis-Silver-to-a-1000-3000-and-other-important-refurb-questions I only have the baby q100 (single...

Stainless Steel Grates Or Grillgrates For My Genesis 1000 -- Your Thoughts

Very true. I actually counted the number of bars in their picture (link in the post above) and it was 1 less than rcplanebuyer. Then I ordered them and counted in person, and it turned out to be the same number of bars. One thing I wasn't quite so happy with was the bbqparts.com flavorizer...

Stainless Steel Grates Or Grillgrates For My Genesis 1000 -- Your Thoughts

Grillgrates are a good product, although I'm not really sold on them over a good heavy stainless grate. Yes they make great sear marks but a lot of that is really aesthetic. I know anodized aluminum is safe to cook on but I still have some hesitations about it. If you check bbqgrillparts.com...
