Starting My 2nd Restore: Skyline 1200 LP

Thanks for the advice Larry. I'll monitor and if any issues, remove the tape and reassemble. Where's the best (cheapest) place to acquire new 8" wheels? Both of my restores have wheels that are extremely weathered. I've include a few new pics of my progress. You can't see it, but I installed...

Starting My 2nd Restore: Skyline 1200 LP

Checking in with a progress update. Before starting, I cleaned up the grates and cooked on it. Was a joy coming from an old Ducane that has rusted cheap flavor bars and grates. The amount of work this grill needed was more than my mean green, but offset by the experience I've had rehabbing the...

    Emblem/Badge question

What's the red paint everyone is using? I'm current restoring a Skyline with a black lid. The red kettle would look smart.

Starting My 2nd Restore: Skyline 1200 LP

Thanks. I think I found the knobs. Ordered knobs and ignite switch. Weber Part# 87680 Weber Part #87679 $40 shipped, so not cheap, but I've seen a number of rehabs here use them and they look great.

Starting My 2nd Restore: Skyline 1200 LP

I've seen a handful of Skylines restored and they are using black knobs. Anyone have insight on what model knobs are being used and where I might acquire them? Similarly, I've seen black handles too - any insight would be great. Took a day off from restoring to cook on the Skyline. It has an...

Starting My 2nd Restore: Skyline 1200 LP

Thanks! It's so exciting when you clean these up and get immediate results. So rewarding. That's another option, just putting spar on cedar. Didn't think of that. I can't wait to see your results.

I will just leave this here

Bummed about the lack of a condiment rack and the utility shelf, but she's cleaning up nice. 20 minutes in so far and I've shared photos in a new thread chronicling the restore.

Starting My 2nd Restore: Skyline 1200 LP

I originally went to pick up a Genesis Platinum, but the seller sold it as I was on the way. I ended up finding this beat up Skyline. After 20 minutes of Simple Green and some #0000 steel wool, things are looking promising. I may have an extra shelf from my previous restore, so might look up...

I will just leave this here

I messaged the seller twice this morning and was on my way to his house and he sold it. Was not happy. Apparently he cleans out houses and had a supply of grills. Despite my displeasure with how the deal transpired, I left with this $30 grill. The manifold looks rusty. Firebox looks to be in...

I will just leave this here

I'm just about finished with the green Genesis 2000 restore and this popped up in my Facebook feed for $50. Thoughts on making this my next project? https://imgur.com/a/JxaG8BM

Need Help Rehabbing Mean Green Genesis from 90's

I'm finishing up my project. It's going to be both a pleasure and shame to cook on this thing when done. I've got a bit of a dilemma. I've got both side shelves done. Next up, I'm tackling the bottom shelf and the adjustable shelf. Here's the thing, I've got extra shelves. If you look at the...

Need Help Rehabbing Mean Green Genesis from 90's

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. Seeing some of the amazing work in this forum has me seeking perfection, when what I have is likely perfectly good enough. I'll likely keep it and keep moving forward. When you see it as a whole without any direct reflections, it looks better...

Need Help Rehabbing Mean Green Genesis from 90's

I lightly sanded the sides of the lid with 120 sandpaper and painted with satin high heat ultra. Not happy with the results. Should I have sanded more? Here's a close-up that accentuates it. When assembled, it's less bad. Before I finish up the job, I'd welcome any advice on fixing it...

Best approach to removing the firebox bolt?

Count me among the last to fight the dreaded left bolt in the firebox. I broke it off trying remove and then proceed to drilling. I ended up drilling half of the screw, with the bottom half still remaining I figure I'll make a slightly larger hole in the outer frame with the bolt going from...

Need Help Rehabbing Mean Green Genesis from 90's

I'm making progress, albeit slowly and all due to the help on this forum. I've cleaned up the lid, degreased and the grill is largely in pieces, save for the frame which is in one piece. As others have documented, the screw on the left of the firebox is a bear. I hit with PBlaster and it...

    1998 "Greenie" restoration - Weber Genesis 1000

Great, thank you. It looks like they have this size in pine at my local Depot. Had to order a new lock pin for my miter saw, as it's in the locked position and won't release without the pin. I've still got plenty of work to do on the interior of the firebox and painting of the outer sides of the...

    1998 "Greenie" restoration - Weber Genesis 1000

I'm in the process of rehabbing a 2000 Greenie. I'm not terribly skilled when it comes to wood work. When heading to Home Depot, what are the dimensions of the wood boards I can expect to find there? Any thoughts and help with the process of measuring, cutting, drilling is greatly appreciated. I...

Need Help Rehabbing Mean Green Genesis from 90's

I've actually been following the part list referenced above, but didn't see burners. The official Webers were $70 from 3rd party on Amazon. I paid $24 plus $11 for shipping for OEM burners. I might have missed where I could find these for less. My grates and flavor bars are coming from RCPlanebuyer.

Need Help Rehabbing Mean Green Genesis from 90's

I picked up tonight. Stopped at the Depot and started to pick up various cleaning materials, oak stain and assorted things to help with the restore. Placed my order for flavor bars and grates already. Also managed to get new burners ordered from eBay for $36. I figure if I'm going all in, I...

    Weber Genesis 2000 Restoration

John, I'm looking to restore a green 2000. I love what you've done with the wood on the green model at the top of this thread. Where did you source the pine? Is this something I could pick up at the Depot. If you could provide any and all details on what I should look for and how you achieved...
