Post your live HeaterMeter Cooks

14 hours into Butt. Thank goodness for a remote Heatermeter! I must be crazy for living up here. Can't wait to retire and move south! [/IMG]

    new build

OK, both lines. Thanks. My programing is limited to punching cards in Fortran IV 40+ years ago.

    new build

Sorry for the dumb question but what line(s) to remove. I got the port 8080 working using the two lines in Ralph's last post in the system/startup box. Thanks.

    No Voltage On Fan Output

Another guy not too long ago was having low fan voltage and re-hit Q3 and a few other components again with solder and got it working. So it's probably a solder joint or like you said, maybe your ATmega. Good that you have a 4.0 for the cook! Happy New Year!

    No Voltage On Fan Output

check power mosfet Q3 to make sure it is not upside down. I did that and had similar low fan voltage. Good luck1

    Good low noise power supply

FWIW to anyone looking for a good cheap low noise power supply, I found this one on Ebay. I purchased this one and it came promptly and is new in box. I am currently using it over 30 ft of cat5 cable and there are no noise icons. I found the newer "light weight" Linksys wall warts are...

    HMv4.0 to HMv4.1?

Thanks again guys for all your help. I've been having a blast with these Heatermeters for about 2 years now. What a great asset to BBQ! Dan

    HMv4.0 to HMv4.1?

Here is what I'm getting with it correctly set up. This is with 2 patch cords and 30 ft of cat5. Looks like <1 LSB! [/IMG]

    HMv4.0 to HMv4.1?

Nice! But I'm not sure what I'm looking at! Here is a screen shot of what I get when I click on the 1 on the right side. [/IMG]

    HMv4.0 to HMv4.1?

Well, I have been testing things trying to get rid of yellow noise icons using my "high end" power supply when I plugged in an old Linksys wall wort for convenience. Sure enough no noise with wall wort whatsoever! I can't believe it, I have shielded cat 6 on the way that looks like I won't...

    HMv4.0 to HMv4.1?

I have been watching the development of a TC board. Wish I knew enough to help, but I don't! I think it would be a welcome addition to the heatermeter. Good luck with the new boards.

    HMv4.0 to HMv4.1?

I actually tested it in the cold! I had the blower and probes out laying on the deck, I think it was high 20's at the time ( I live near you in St. Charles ). No noise icons at all, then later using same cabling restarted it for the cook and got the icons. I must be right on the line but as...

    HMv4.0 to HMv4.1?

Couldn't wait for SMD resistors so made the mod with TTH. My heatermeter 4.0 is in the house warm and dry while a rack of ribs is on the BGE! It works great! Strange thing is that when I tested it for about an hour I had no noise icons but when I later set it up on the BGE I am getting a...

    HMv4.0 to HMv4.1?

That's great! I think I will go the SMD route as it does look much cleaner. Thanks for putting some more time into this!

    HMv4.0 to HMv4.1?

I have the resistor and cap wired just like in Ralph's picture on previous page. Guess I'll just have to wait till a TC amp is developed and use my 4.2 remotely. The 4.0 works great and even without remote temp gauges just running the servo and fan through a common cable with 4.2 makes it worth...

    HMv4.0 to HMv4.1?

I spoke too soon. While it does read room temp about 10 degrees low at 60 degrees, it only reads 70 degrees in boiling water! Probes seem to be non responsive with the cap and 100k resistor. When plugged into heatermeter bypassing the mod the probes work fine. Any ideas?

    HMv4.0 to HMv4.1?

Complied with all suggestions and added the 100k resistors and caps. Definite improvement in that before the noise monitors jumped between red and yellow and oscillations were up to 2 degrees. Now the noise icons are just steady yellow and the most temp jump is .7 degrees. I ordered the parts...

    HMv4.0 to HMv4.1?

Great! I ordered the caps and 100k resistors today and will try that first and if I still get noise will replace with updated blower circuit.

    HMv4.0 to HMv4.1?

Thanks for all the ideas! I'll run through them all and report back. I did try voltage mode when I first made the mod and it doesn't work. The fan will come on when it's supposed to but always at 100%, even when a lower max is specified. No control of fan speed even in manual mode. Works...

    HMv4.0 to HMv4.1?

Well, soldered the wires in the wall jacks (sort of), I stripped the ends and tinned them then pushed them back in, no help. Also used heat gun and ran pit up to 230 also no help. If I hear that the 4.0 probes can run over cat5 without noise I guess next step would be to try solid wire cat5...
