First Stoker cook, a couple of questions

Larry as I mentioned previously, I had a lot of issues with the game adapter. I purchased the Buffalo Tech Wireless Ethernet Adapter (802.11 G) and have never had another connection issue. Amir's program allows you to save settings and load them up. I have saved the settings for "fast ribs"...

First Stoker cook, a couple of questions

Opening the lid adds a lot of air to the coals. It is normal to see it spike during that time. The "auto lid detection" should have shut off the Stoker for 5 minutes so your smoker can regain temperature. My guess is it would have resumed temp whether you adjusted the temperature up or not...

First Stoker cook, a couple of questions

Page 20 in the "Ver .5 Software" manual has how to set the probe calibration. It is the "Cal" menu item. The very last page of my manual had the calibration numbers written there. While I have never done this, it seems like you measure how far off it is from boiling and enter that "offset"...

First Stoker cook, a couple of questions

As Ken mentioned, keep the plastic sleeve on. It is a silicone "strain relief" for the probe. As you mentioned, I would keep the grill temp probe a little bit away from the food, but I keep it in an area above the heat shield and not in an area directly above the fire. "Ramp Mode" - the...

    Stoker - Wireless Gaming Adapter

Larry, Search for posts by me. I had 2 of these game adapters and went through all the steps to set this up. I FINALLY got it working and the next day the setup no longer worked. It was possibly a compatibility issue with my brand of wireless router. I determined I spent WAY too much of my...

    Stoker - High Temperature Sensor

I was thinking about picking up a second fire temperature sensor for my Stoker and wondering if anyone has the high temperature sensor version that he sells. I'm thinking that the metal jacket on the wire might be a good thing in case I ever leave the lid off the smoker and forget to put it...

    My other project

Sounds great! I'm also interested in seeing anything you are willing (and able) to share. While Amir's program more than meets my needs, playing with additional programs would be fun!

Problem with first two stoker cooks - too hot!

Seeing as your temperature kept going up even though the fan wasn't running, I'm guessing you have an air leak somewhere. The only air leak that the Stoker can cause is if that flapper door gets stuck open (although I've never had this happen).

    Stoker or DigiQ II

Bob, I don't want to steal this thread, but can you tell us a little more about your Stoker handset app and if you plan on sharing it? Larry, I have the Stoker and my father has the DigiQ II. Both are good products. The Stoker allows you to monitor, receive SMS updates, graph, etc. with 3rd...

    StokerLog Version 4.0 Preview

Uninstalling the old version and installing the new version seems to have fixed the issues... clearly pilot error. Thanks!

    StokerLog Version 4.0 Preview

Amir, I'm running the most recent version of your program. I upgraded from the older version of 4.1 to the newer version of 4.1. I forgot to uninstall the old version (which might be my issues and I'll do so and reinstall after my cook) but it looks like the temperature scale on the left-hand...

    StokerLog Version 4.0 Preview

To tell the truth I have never tried cooking ribs without the sand. I used to cook ribs at 225 for roughly the same amount of time that you stated but started cooking at 275 for 3 hours after getting Dr. BBQ's book. Ribs seem to be just as juicy. Oh, I guess I should have mentioned that I...

    StokerLog Version 4.0 Preview

Amir, I am assuming you are talking pork ribs. While you can always add additional steps to cooking ribs, like foiling, I find the following is a successful approach on the GD. Purchase the double decker rack and hang it upside down. On this rack I have a weber foil pan filled with sand (the...

    D. Penn, this is VERY cool. I just tried it out and it works great. I would also be interested in receiving the ASP file if you are sharing... elav "at" sbcglobal.net Great work!

    StokerLog Version 4.0 Preview

While I agree that I don't want to give Amir additional work, I like the idea that there is a log file for each cook. It allows the ability to graph one cook against another...

    StokerLog Version 4.0 Preview

I am happy to report that I upgraded my Stoker to the new 2.1.287 Alpha build successfully and the Stoker didn't loose my probe names or calibration. I also loaded up version 4.0 of Amir's program and my brief tests showed everything working well!
