    Contemplating a Stoker – Questions

It should work, and I agree, I would not want to run wires through your house. It's unattractive and probably dangerous. The wall connectors are color coded so if you follow them, you can't go wrong. Remember however that there are 2 distinct type of RJ-45 box jacks that are identical except for...

    Contemplating a Stoker – Questions

FYI: Actually the wire sequence does make somewhat of a difference. 1&2 and 3&6 MUST run together as a pair. The colors don't matter but these must be paired, it's the way the technology is designed to work. It's a noise cancelling thing. And forget about making your own cable, a decent crimping...

    Contemplating a Stoker – Questions

Cat-5 cable is also know as twisted pair. A few houses were wired for that so you may indeed have it. Cat-3 also looks pretty much the same however but doesn't perform as well(distance/speed.) In either case, there should be 4 pairs of wires, (8 total) only 4 of which are needed. Now for the bad...

Can't find stoker on my local network

THe Stoker is an odd beast to network routers. I don't know why, but it will not show up on the client list of most routers, and if you set it to a static address, it won't port forward on some. It will port forward on a DHCP address, but as you know they can change. I have a router that will...

    stoker help needed

I assumed you've entered in the correct IP address in the space provided. Once you do that, you MUST tab out of that field, then press F5 to update the StokerLog interface. Other than that, it should work.

Help Please Laptop direct to stoker using Vista

Mark, Be it Vista or XP, once you go solo on a computer with IP, you are going to have issues. There is some hope however. If you normally hook up to a network that assignes an address of 192.168.1.X , go ahead and use that schema for your static address on your wired network adapter and...

Help Please Laptop direct to stoker using Vista

Oh, I forgot to mention Vista. It seems that MS decided that if people were to believe that they had really developed a new OS, they would have to change the way they did everything, even if it meant the end user would have to spend countless hours searching for something that had always been...

Help Please Laptop direct to stoker using Vista

I'll try to asnwer your question, I'm kinda doing this in the dark, not knowing what you know, and making a few assumptions. #1 Assuming you are not connected to the internet via the wireless adapter. First of all to hook up direct with a crossover cable, you must use static IP address on both...

    Yet another Stoker Question

Yes there is a difference. A wireless access point acts as your wireless agent on a network for wireless user to access the network. A wireless bridge connects a wired device, such as a stoker, to the wireless network. If you have a wireless router, you do not need an access point, it's built...

    First Timer needs help

First of all, remember that some cuts of meat have to go through a process that breaks down fat and connective tissue. This consumes energy and will not allow the temperature of the meat to rise until it is broken down. This is refered to as the temperature platue. Weird I know, but it happens...

    Stoker Part II

I wrap my probe in foil, but it's mostly the probe wire I'm wrapping and protecting. The probe gets wrapped only about one inch past the junction of the probe wire. I found that the best way to do it is to cut a 3/24 strip of foil and start wrapping at the probe end. You'll find that you cn...

    Bad Stoker experience

My 2 cents worth. Stuff happens. I would be very curious to know how many times I've heard, "Well, that's never happened before" when returning a brand spanking new product because it didn't work the right out of the box. In the case of my Stoker however, it worked correctly the first time, even...

Stokerlog changing pit target when lid opened...

Stokerlog lowers the set value to trick the stoker into thinking the desired temp has been met so the fan won't kick on. It will auto-reset after 5 minutes.

Stoker - 5 min blower off versus turn off

I've used the auto lid detect and had good success. The auto lid detect is calibrated in temp drop/sec. I have mine set for 6°/sec. and that seems to work most every time on my low temp cooks. This is an absolute setting while in real life it probably should be relative. Meaning that for a lower...

Stoker - 5 min blower off versus turn off

If you are using the stokerlog software, turning it off will make the software go into error condition. If not, just do what you are doing, turn it off. Just don't forget to turn it back on like I did. No harm done, turned it back on 20 minutes later, it had dropped a few degrees, no big deal. Ken
