The Time to Sharpen Your Carving Knife is Now!

My father did the same for many years. They never had great knives. I can’t think of any other gadgets they had that is unpopular like the electric knife. Maybe an electric can opener? They did have a crock pot, kitchen aid mixer and a microwave which are still popular today.

Neat! I grew Kentucky Wonder beans this year and harvested a bunch to use as dried beans. This was all from 16 plants, almost two pounds worth:

HOW TO: Remove Cook Box Slide Rail Screws - The Easy Way

I think you can edit your original post. If so, can you change “hear” to “heat”? Thanks for the video, for the few screws that you can’t remove, your only option is to drill them out, right?

Lawn rehab - seeding & watering - who else is doing it this fall?

I agree that the mulching deck is the way to go. My church has a big commercial Scags mower with a bagger. I converted it to a mulching mower a couple years ago. Saved so much time.

Prices of various weber grill back in the day.

I paid $499 for my hunter green 1300LX in 1999. Bought it from Hudson Appliance. I still have the receipt for it.

    Facebook Marketplace

I also find that you are less likely to get flakes. It’s easier to post pictures and create a listing. I wish CL would modernize their system a bit.

Yes, agreed. I see the stupid ad all the time on Boston & RI Craigslist.

    Dual Fuel Ovens.

The manifold is easy to replace. You get it from a donor grill or buy a new manifold. I’ve done both.

    Smoke Detectors.

I got some with built in batteries that need to get tossed after ten years. They say that smoke detectors should be replaced after ten years because the sensor could fail. See this. http://www.brkelectronics.com/faqs/newconstruction/nfpa-recommends-to-replace-smoke-alarms-every-10-years

Sandblasting the fire box and end caps for $75

I'm in the suburbs of Boston so it's not like I have oodles of sandblasting places to check out. Many of them are near industrial towns which means an hour round trip to drop off the goods while this guy is the next town over. I noticed one sandblasting company listing a bunch of mediums like...

First ever grill, Weber Genesis Silver B, and need help restoring it!

I agree on finding another lid from a donor grill. Are there any lids to avoid? That is, will a Genesis 1xxxx lid fit the Silver B or is it different?

    A fitting end

Condolences for your loss. I agree that dementia is tough on the family. My father in law passed away from Alzheimer last year. He really declined over the last four years so thankfully it wasn’t dragged out. That’s a nice photo of your father. The thing I remember about my Dad regarding...

Sandblasting the fire box and end caps for $75

Will do. The main thing I care about is the white stuff on the outside of the box. Will that come off with pressure washing? I don’t see any gouges in the paint so the other option is to clean the outside thoroughly and repaint it instead of stripping it down to bare metal. I thought $75...

I did see Genesis II for sale but they are usually asking $500-700. Nothing cheap.

Sandblasting the fire box and end caps for $75

There’s a person in FB marketplace offering sandblasting service. To do the firebox (outside) and the end caps (outside), the rate will be $75 for the three items. It seems fair to me and I don’t have to deal with scrubbing. The other option is to forgo this and just paint over the existing...

    Hands free kitchen faucet.

Same here. My in-laws have one and I find it annoying to use. My current kitchen faucet is so easy to turn on/off that I don't see the value of hands free. To turn it on, I just use the back of a finger.

    Weber clearance deals at Target.

I saw someone on Reddit posting that they got 36 10lb bags of Kingsford for $36 from Krogers. Sweet deal.

    Dual Fuel Ovens.

If it's going to be a lot of work, maybe it's better to stick with electric stoves? I would seriously consider having an induction cooktop if I were you. I also don't understand your comment about the kitchen not being accessible from the attic. Is it a cathedral ceiling? There's always the...
