    Minion v. Standard method

I found it really depends on how air tight you WSM is in the first place. 1/2 is a good baseline to start from, I found more issues with being to closed than being to open. I started a bit tighter and had that off taste on my first batch of ribs.

    Minion v. Standard method

When I said uniformly I was referring to the uniform burn of the charcoal. No left over coals that are partially burned etc. The air mix inside the WSM with the fan is thorough enough that the heat is distributed consistenly for even temps.

Great idea just ordered 2 sets. Thanks for posting.

    Minion v. Standard method

Pipe Minion Method I do exactly the same thing with a piece of vent pipe. The only difference is I start the pipe on the side closest to the fan. That way the heat is conducted across the pile of charcoal by the push of air. So it burns from one side to the other uniformly.

WSM 22.5 + cajun bandit door + Compression latch (SC-62315)

Thanks, my concept is to flex the CB door slightly to tighten the outside edges of the door gasket against the body of the smoker. Then the compression latch will snug everything up.

WSM 22.5 + cajun bandit door + Compression latch (SC-62315)

I am doing the compression latch mod now on my 22" WSM. I have glued the nomex gasket to the CB door. I just glued it to the 3 sides (top and sides) of the door. Are you supposed to gasket the bottom as well? Thanks!

    IQue 110 with WSM 18.5"

I also have the older version of the IQ. At first I followed the directions from the video and only opened the top vent about 1/8 or so. I would have a slight creosote flavor, and in searching this site ran across information about opening the top vent about 1/2. That's where I am now, no off...

    Pittmaster IQ 100

I am waiting for a dry weekend to try again. First ribs were great moist, tender etc. Just a hint of creosote which I noticed but not my guests. Next time I will open the upper vent up to 1/2. The vid on Pitmaster site said 1/8. Has anyone made or thought about making a waterproof box? I saw the...

    First Ribs on ATC

Thank-you for identifying the taste and also the recommendations. Next cook I will open the upper vent up to about 1/2 and see if that does the trick.

    First Ribs on ATC

I've done ribs about 6 times on my 22" WSM. I've added a Pitmaster 110 to help on overnighters. I thought ribs would be a good start because I am so comfortable with the results. I followed the setup on the Pitmaster website, with the upper vent open about 1/8". Ribs in 6 hours were great. Much...

    Automatic Blower system for WSM?

I have a 22.5" WSM. I just finished my first pork rib smoke with my Pitmaster 110. It worked perfectly and maintained the temperature much better than I can without it.Literally was set it and forget it. Next up Brisket!

    BBQ Guru Eylets Installation

I just installed the first bbq guru eyelet in my 22" WSM. At first it was a little loose and eyelet would turn. I thought about it a little and used the second retainer in the kit as a sleeve over the eyelet. That extended the retainer over the end of the eyelet. Then, I used a 1/4" bolt...

    How transportable?

John, I live in 1 of the most truck unfriendly places in the USA. I was able to undo the wing nuts (2) on the manifold and (1) 7/16" bolt on the other side. Remove the entire firebox with lid, which was bagged up and put into the back seat. Then the frame was loaded into the trunk of my '09...

    Genesis 1000 LX restoration

Justin, Thanks. The older Genesis gassers have a second row of 8 bars that rest in notches on the firebox like the longer ones. I have NOT tried it out yet to let you know how they work. But I will when I finish. Walter, Thank-you, I thought about your previous post about the side plates on the...

    Genesis 1000 LX restoration

Walter, Thanks for the welcome. Also, thanks for the photo tip. Yes I considered removing the bolts for the sides of the lid. My issue was, I had to cut so many of the bolts off with an abrasive wheel. especially inside the firebox. I didn't see much benefit to removing the side when compared...
