Newbie with an old Genesis--learning to refurb!

I just use water until the very end. It’s mostly removing big chunks of crud until the end when you get to the steel wool step. Then you can use any kind of soap you want.

If I were you, I'd take the lid off to clean it. Especially since you have such shiny new guts in there already. Again, razor scraper then steel wool. It's surprisingly gratifying. Looking good!

What? I can't hear you! Just kidding. Look online for free grills. You've already learned enough to get one running good enough to keep you grilling while you repair your original one. Plus, since you have joined the Dark Side (this forum) you can easily get any advice and...

Newbie with an old Genesis--learning to refurb!

You sound like you might benefit from looking for a free local grill to use when yours is not running. There are free Webers out there, that work! I realize I'm probably spreading Weberitis, but after all it is contagious disease. I'd look for a free Silver B or C. Those are probably the...

Wife says its a problem! I refer to it as ambitious Weber preservation!

Just grab a few more grills. You'll come across some usable z brackets in no time! You can tell your wife it is good for the environment, each grill in a landfill is absolutely dreadful!

You can even smear a little vaseline on those tiny rust spots, it will keep it from getting worse until you have time to properly address the rust. That said, you have VERY minimal rust compared to some grills people deal with on here. I'm sure they are jealous!

Old School Genesis Cast Iron Grates?

That's a nice 1000. I think at this point the most valuable part is the large drip tray that is partially pulled out. Don't throw those away, they are no longer available from anywhere!

I will just leave this here

Slap a couple of those J. Tofte stainless panels on there and you'll have yourself a winner, winner chicken dinner!

Old School Genesis Cast Iron Grates?

Maybe even start by just scrubbing that rust with steel wool.

Looking for Gas Valves for Vieluxe

May I ask why you are looking to replace the valves? Are they sticking and turning with a lot of effort? You might be able to lubricate them and use the ones you have. Chris has an excellent video on lubing up old valves here...

Use a razor scraper on the drip pan if it is porcelain coated steel (I have an older grill that’s what I use on mine) then steel wool if you want it perfect. Steel wool and or a brass brush for the burner tubes. You can use water just dry them out good before reuse. Pay special attention to...

    Spirit 700 first refurb

The hood end caps have studs in them that the lid attaches with, so you don’t see fasteners on the outsides of those end caps. I just like that look. It’s a subtle thing, but again I just like it.

E330 NG and LP manifold and valve side by side comparison

Dan this is such a cool writeup. Thank you for doing it. I'm one of the few that grills with natural gas I guess. I don't have an outdoor kitchen, but I definitely grill frequently! Fascinating content, I'm going to come back to this and read more carefully when I have more time.

BBQ prep cart from grill frame?

Now I'm thinking about a grill cart cooler .... I've been dreaming of making a standing cooler with spray foam, an old plastic cooler and reclaimed wood for years, but a grill cart cooler, now that could be something. Especially with two side tables.
