I have HM 4.0 w/ the thermoworks probes. If I touch the shield/braid on my probes it reads open/, "no pit probe". If my probe braid touches the metal grate or other metal on the gill it can also cause this probe to read open. Is this the same issue you are seeing?

I also use the auberins blower w/ HM4.0. In addition to the damper the simple mounting adapters and spring make it easy to install and remove. I soldered the DC power jack pigtail to my HM board.

I also received a case from Tom that turned out great. I use the Auberins blower and use a power jack pigtail on the PCB instead of an RCA connector. The Auberins blower is easy to install and remove and has a baffle to stop the airflow when the fan is off.
