Guru Pit temp issue

The Guru pit probe has a gator clip on the end of it. I put the probe through the eyelet and then looked for a place to put it.

As I was looking, the probe shifted and the gator clip fell off. it skittered down the inside of the WSM and down into the charcoal bowl, right under the lit coals.

I had to go back the next day and sift through the ash...which was still just a TAD warm (read still slightly lit)

Note to those reading this: THE CLIP IS STEEL AND CAN BE PICKED UP BY A MAGNET. I did not learn this until after I had sifted everything, but it is good to know for the future.

it will also stay on if you either mash it on or crimp it to fit. I just mashed it on real tight and it seems to be working. Next cook is this afternoon. I will report.

I had the same thing happen to me shorty after I received the Guru. I now clip it to the meat probe, or cooking crate prior to putting the probe through the eyelet. You can purchase a bag of 5 spares for four or five bucks off of the Guru web site.
