Yes, Toronto golf nuts. Maybe just saw your name mentioned there or something. I'm also from Burlington, although I've only lived here for a few years. Love it though, great town.

OK, I will put in my two cents. I am an engineer who was designing anything from 1200 lot subdivisions to 600 units apartment building sites. As everyone knows contruction tanked. I was without a job for 1.5 years (Thank you Home Depot) until I was hired by a major mechanical and energy conservation association. Too big to mention. Funny, I was in to bulldozers; now I'm into light bulbs. I am blessed. See ya buy.

I had been wanting to do a thread like this for sometime, just never got around to it. Glad somebody else had the same thought.

As for work, like Mr. Correll
I followed in the footsteps of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Daniel Boone, Abraham Lincoln, and Henry David Thoreau,

Except I'm still a Land Surveyor. Still have quite some time til I can say I'm retired and have been doing it for 30 years.

Disabled due to eye disease, babysitter for grandchildren 7,5,3,2,2,1 and househusband. I refuse to let my eye disease keep me from doing stuff.

I *think* I may have early symptoms of wet AMD. I need to get it checked out.

Originally the doctors said macular degeneration, then I got sent to NUMEROUS specialists and they said it is not mac. deg. because of my age, but a "cousin"

and officially diagnosed me with ocular histoplasmosis and chorodial neovascular membrane(in english scarring in the eye).

I have zero center vision in my right eye and everything in my left is a bit warped in the center. My peripheral vision is fine and to use laptop i just have to blow it up very big and look at a slight angle.

There are things that they are coming up with for wet or dry M.D. if it is caught early so if you are even thinking there might be an issue i would suggest seeing an eye doctor soon as possible.

When I was first diagnosed, I lost my drivers license which was a bummer but good for safety, and they said I need to get a hobby. At first i was in a self pity mode then one day my wife brought home 2 grills and grill tools for me and I have been hooked since. I have upgraded quite a bit since then(about 8 years ago) and have gotten involved in cooking,judging,and volunteering anything to do with my new "hobby"

Very sorry to hear about your eye problems.
It sounds like you have the right attitude!

My late dad was totally blind for the last 54 of his 84 years of life, but never let it be a handicap.

His hobby, besides fishing, was woodworking.
He had a shop with power saws etc., and still had all of his fingers

Retired police lieutenant from a municipal police department here in southeastern Virginia with 35 + years of service - been gone from that agency almost 6 years now - miss the people and the work - do NOT miss the politics....
 
Medical Technologist. I work in the laboratory of a large medical clinic doing blood tests, urinalysis, and playing with various other body fluids (yeah, well, somebody has to do it (lol)

Full time work: Network Engineer at a large Silicon Valley networking equipment provider.

Weekends: California Air National Guard.

Doesn't leave much time for long cooks/smokes but I try to fit them in when I can.
 
Rooster,

Thank you for your service. Did a ride-along with an officer and I never knew just how much **** officers have to put up with and remain polite.

Very highly recommend it if your department does it. An eye opener.
