How long for chuck roll?

I am doing a 9lb chuck roll this weekend. I plan on going around 240-250F lid temp till I hit 160F internal and then foiling till I hit 200F.
How long will this generally take?

Also, what is your preferred wood for BBQ'ing a chuck roll. I have oak and hickory handy right now...

That's a nice looking piece of meat you've got there. I'd estimate about 1 1/2-2 hours per pound, but it probably will take less time. Foiling will speed things up. Oak/hickory are good. For me, I'd go with 2 oak for every 1 of hickory. Start checking for tender before 200, but don't rush it. If you don't think it is tender enough, let it go and check in 5* intervals. Hope you enjoy your 5 lbs of chuck.

You are going for pulled beef I assume

My 18 - 18.5 lb rolls always took right around 21-23 hrs to cook. So figure on about 1hr 15 min to 1.5 hrs. per lb. I would always foil the rolls in the 165-170º internal temp range. I cook mine between 235 -250º grate temp. HTH
