Chilli peppers - swaps and alternative

Got a couple of Mexican and taco cookbooks for Christmas. In the UK some of the specialist varieties are harder to come by. There is a great site mexgrocer.co.uk which I use for dry chillies and have chipotle in adobo, lots of dried chillies. But fresh harder to come by. I have some seeds so will get growing.

But in the meantime wondered if folk here have ideas on acceptable subs in recipes?

In particular seems to be no cascabel chillies available in the UK dried or otherwise. And fresh we don't tend to have the pointy green peppers just bell.

Any ideas greatly appreciated!
