I new to cooking with a WSM, doing my fifth cook with it now. Last cook I finally able to maintain temps and have decided to order the Cajun Bandit SS replacement door and 3/8" grommets.

What does the stainless steel high air flow coal ring do for me?

I don't feel I need it but do not have the experience with the WSM that many of you do, so I'm wondering do I order the WSM bundle package or just order the items I want.

By the way I did use the search feature and only found one answer saying it was not needed, thanks for your advance in advice!

I would be inclined to acquire a charcoal ring for the 18 to be used on shorter cooks. I think that would be more of an advantage than a high air flow CB ring. When I had my 22 I built a charcoal basket. It never had any trouble burning fuel.

I personally see no advantage from buying it. My 22 has never had a problem with getting hot or burning through the fuel.

I agree with Matt, never had anything close to a problem in maintaining temps after you get the cooker dialed in.

Definitely more of an issue trying to decrease temps than increase..this thing likes to burn some coal! Save your money for a cyber-q.

I did this when my 22" was newer. Altough I made mine from Home Depot expanded metal. I made it the same hieght as the factory 22" WSM ring, just about 6" smaller in diameter. No floor, just a metal ring held together with stainless tie wire. After a few cooks, I was able to reserve the unburned coal in the factory 22" ring. That smaller ring sits unused now. Not sure I see much benefit from that CB ring.
