Brass

I see a number of people doing the thermometer hole out of a lamp rod. The only one that I can find is a brass rod that's zinc plated. Is that safe to use? Thanks.

For such a small piece of metal I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Eric, you might want to do a search on here regarding the slot mod. A lot of members prefer it to the grommet type mod you are referring to. I just did the slot mod on my WSM and kettle - sure is nice not having to thread probe wires through holes!

Flip your cooker lid and take of wingnut on the thermostat and run it through that hole.

I agree with Mike, initially I had installed the grommet, most recently I cut a slot.
