    My build

I have the WESD 51 and would have to agree... Its reliable and works, but I wouldn't buy it again. Theres better value irons to be had. I've got 3 spydercos (which are great) but my current EDC is a Benchmade Mini-Grip 555HG (w/spydie hole of course! :D ) I've had a Red Troodon on my wishlist...

    WiFi DHCP Problems

I thought all of mine were rtl8192cu... I just double checked and the adaptor Im using now is RT5370. =/ While its sometimes a real chore to get it connected, the RT5370 has proven to be MUCH more reliable once it "warms up".

    WiFi DHCP Problems

Under Network > Interfaces do you have a instance of eth0 setup to accept a DHCP? I recall reading that that can cause issues... I'm having the same problems with 3 separate dongles. (all rtl8192cu) I suspect my problem may be related to roaming on my dual router/AP WDS setup. You wouldn't...

    Assign Pit probe

I think I tried that and ended up doing it the other way since LCD & web page didn't display the probe as "Pit". I could be be wrong though... Anywho, this is useful info if your thermocouple ever craps out and you don't have a backup on hand! For those interested, heres where I...

    Assign Pit probe

I did this last week as i didn't have a thermocouple, but wanted to play around with the HM. I think I just swapped the pin assignments in hmcore.h, compiled in the arduino ide and uploaded via the web flash page.

What a noob. Just trashed my brand new v4.2.4 build

That board looks totally salvageable imo. I would recommend: - Gently scrape the carbon off with a xacto. - Clean remaining carbon & flux residue with a trimmed acid brush (like this) and 91% isopropyl alcohol. - Remove remaining solder with solder wick. - Replace any damaged traces with wire...

    RSS Feed for Remote Display

Hi. I have a 20x2 VFD attached to a old windows xp machine that displays weather info via LCDSmartie 24/7. I'd like to include data from the HeaterMeter while its running, but unfortunately, LCDSmartie isn't smart enough to parse JSON data and I'm not smart enough to figure out how to code a...

Version 2 of my homebrew controller

interesting find... i have a NMB blower i picked up at goodwill a while back. took a look at the board where the wires connect and noticed a 4th pad. hmm... soldered a wire to the pad and connected it to a pot (0-5v) and sure enough it varied the output! bad thing is that 0V doesn't shutdown the...

Version 2 of my homebrew controller

many of the newer pc fans/blowers have control circuitry built-in. variable voltage, pwm or signal from a thermistor applied to the input lead will vary the fan speed. http://www.nmbtc.com/dc-fans/e...g/speed-control.html

Version 2 of my homebrew controller

i seem to have isolated a couple of my issues! the chip wasn't quite seated properly in the dip socket & a ribbon cable was improperly crimped by the manufacturer. 2-wire is working at the moment on my mock-up! last night after lots of soldering and meter beeps, i finally decided it was time...

Version 2 of my homebrew controller

rj, the main problem i see with the pic serial controller is when you forget to unplug it before uploading code to the arduino. its pretty easy to corrupt the firmware when dumping a new sketch to your board. (ask me how i know ) reflashing the pic requires a pic programmer. the other obvious...

Version 2 of my homebrew controller

thanx bryan, that all makes sense! i've been suspicious of this 2wire library for a while now... i have another project that has been plagued with elusive timing issues that no-one else seems to have trouble with. i just finished up a 3-wire shiftreg board and grabbed a 74ls164 from another...

Version 2 of my homebrew controller

heatermeter.cpp ? i think you meant heatermeter.pde, but yea, i tried that and no luck. right now, its displaying a single line of blocks similar to what john described a few pages back. i might give the 3 wire design a go... =/ -sj
