    Charcoal Amount

Thanks to all for the advice. I will try to get to the point where I can get pretty close on the amount of charcoal I need. If I reuse any, I will make sure they are with the unlit coals and not in the chimney.

    Charcoal Amount

I believe the tin can minion method involves cutting the top and bottom out of a coffee can. Stand the can in the middle of the charcoal ring and place charcoal between the outside edges of the can and the charcoal ring. Place lit coals inside the can and then lift the can out. Creates a...

    Charcoal Amount

Thanks for all the comments. I will go as Dwain suggests. Do you folks see any difference (e.g., loss of heat) using leftover coals vs. fresh ones?

    Charcoal Amount

Yes, I meant 2 chimneys. One lit and one unlit. I would be looking to do the chicken at 325-350 to get crisp skin. I realize that there is no single answer to my question and that I have to learn by trial and error based on what I cook, whether I use the water pan, and the temps I desire. I...

    Charcoal Amount

I am still learning how to use my WSM 18.5. I have less than 10 cooks on it. Most of the time I experience not being able to get/keep temp high enough due to not starting with enough charcoal (kingsford). Can any of you provide a guide/recommendation on what has worked well for you on how...

    Gasket on Base

I live out I10W just past Ralph Fair Rd (about 6 miles out from Fiesta Texas).

    Gasket on Base

Thanks. Just installed the hinge and gasket. Just put the gasket around the top and the door as you suggested. Looking forward to trying them both you.

    Gasket on Base

THoey. I had seen your mods thread. That where I got the idea about vertical placement. Is there any problem in getting the middle section into the base when the gasket is placed as you show? I have received word that BBQGaskets says that the lower gasket is no longer needed on newer WSM due...

    Gasket on Base

For those who have installed gaskets on your WSM. How/where did you install the bottom gasket? Instructions say horizontally on the base but there isn't a lip there like on the middle section. Do you just install in on the rim of the base and have it sticking over on inside and outside? I...

    Wind shield

Thanks. The smaller one looks good for the 18.5 and about the same price or cheaper than trying to buy materials and build a shield. I will check into it. John

    Wind shield

For those of you who have built wind shields for use in cold/windy weather. How tall is your shield? Does it need to be taller than the WSM? Is it effective if it only comes up to where the lid goes on the middle section? I am asking because I have some dog fencing that I was thinking of...

    Increased capacity question

Thanks. I tried another top grate upside down on the top grate for ribs. There really wasn't enough clearance between the ribs and the other grate, so I just used the bottom grate. I will probably add a middle grate similar to what you did.

    WSM Cover

Thanks Jim. I will go ahead and get a 22 cover.

    Increased capacity question

I reviewed the page that showed options for increasing the capacity of a WSM. The two I am interested in are (1) turning an additional top grate upside down on the top grate or (2) adding screws and an additional grate mid way between the top and bottom grates. My question involves temperature...

    WSM Cover

I have a WSM 18.5. The cover that came with it has a snug fit. I have added garage door handles to the main body as described by other members. I would like to add the lid hinge also. Once these mods are done, I don't think the 18.5 cover will fit. I was thinking of purchasing a 22.5 cover...
