    Fire snuffing out.with lid on

Top is wide open. I was using Frontier lump. Maybe I'll try briquets.

    Fire snuffing out.with lid on

Great idea. Could it be as simple as the small pieces falling thru and chocking it out?

    Fire snuffing out.with lid on

I did check that the vents were visually open on the bottom. Seems to be lined up ok. I did notice upon further inspection that the cruddy old charcoal grate allows the smaller pieces of lump to fall to the bottom of the bowl right over the vent slots. I should probably try getting a new grate.

    Fire snuffing out.with lid on

I have an old performer I bought at an auction. I had to replace the bottom bowl because it was to far gone to save. I was able to save the ash sweep and ash catcher off the old bowl. Now every time I close the lid, even with both vents wide open, the coals tend to snuff out. Once I take the lid...

Rescued a 2002 Performer. Advice please!

Quick update. I ended up buying a replacement bowl for it. Just stripped the old one of its parts and attached them to the new bowl using new hardware. Works like a dream. So for essentially the price of aN OTG I have, in my opinion, the coolest of the performer "body styles".

Rescued a 2002 Performer. Advice please!

I found an '02 blue performer at an auction and paid 50 bucks for it. In my excitement I failed to notice that it's rusted through on the bowl where the grate brackets are welded to the inside. I'm wondering if a little JB weld and some high heat automotive paint will fix her up or if I should...

    Water pan empty or full?

After watching several Youtube vids on the WSM I discovered opposing opinions on having the water pan filled or empy and covered with foil. I even heard of people filling it with sand and covering over that with foil. I understand the concept of thermal mass, but wonder if empty vs full...

How long have you been able to make a load of charcoal last?

Just wondering how long you all have been able to stretch out a full load of charcoal using an ATC. I have an Auber Instruments for my BGE and plan on doing my first brisket on my 22 this weekend. Can I pack it to the gills with briquettes, set it at 250, and let it chug along to cook a 9 1/2...

    Made the plunge.

I just finished assembling my 22 and am already dreaming about what to do first. I'm really thinking a brisket so I can get a feel for the way she handles a long, low cook. Would you recommend running my controller for the first cook or manually so I get a feel.for her. Any advice would be...

Ready to make the purchase, but...

I've been kicking around the idea of entering a few of the small local bbq competitions and need something with more space than my large egg can offer. Also, I started doing bbq on my kettle, so it has a special place in my heart. I just wonder if a digital controller would extend how long the...

Ready to make the purchase, but...

Greetings to everyone. I'm new to the forum. Just wanted to start out by saying my first-ever grill was a 22.5 One-Touch Gold which now lives with my brother in Potter County PA. I now have a Genesis and a Big Green Egg. I'm ready to pull the trigger on a Smokey Mountain and am leaning toward...
