Using xenforo.com search there are also some hits on "ignore thread" but I have no clue how xenforo is related to this site, nor even what xenforo is.

LOL No-one, and there is the ignore-user feature for that.

Some threads just keep going long after I've lost interest and ignoring it would declutter the recent threads.

It is a feature in other software and I incorrectly presumed it was a feature for XenForo.

I searched and see there is an Add-on but it's not worth the trouble.

For me the concern about muting a thread is that a topic of waffle makers could quickly transition to pressure washing a house and I'd miss something good.
