Aka watt doggers. I've had dogs from homebrew versions (nothing more than zip cords with food safe spikes connected straight to US house current,) but they tend to cook a little unevenly. And little to no browning, it's all internal resistive heating.

In college (before microwaves were popular) we made dogs by sticking a copper wire in each end and then the wires into an outlet. 45 seconds and they were done.

I was shocked to learn you should not check the temperature of the dogs by touching them before you unplugged them. :>)

Reminds me of this lawn game from the same era...long before the CPSC ruined all the fun. Kids were getting these giant lawn darts stuck in their heads.

Yeah, for lack of a better description that is it. Plus this weird "ozone" type smell in the house. The whole thing was pretty unpleasant
