Hey Duncan,

Don't feel like an idiot. Your food turned out fine and that's what counts! It's all part of the learning experience - and by sharing it, we've all been able to learn. And believe me, you'll get loads of advice, tips and help (almost in "real time") on this site!

By the way, have you noticed how many of us there are from New Jersey now???

It's not unusual to see a good amount of smoke coming from where the lid meets the middle section at the beginning of a cook when the wood is catching on. Be sure you have the lid securely in place. I've put mine on and not noticed that it wasn't actually in place. Turn the handle on the lid a little and you can tell.

Normally you would simply reply to an existing topic if your question pertains to it. Sometimes, however the threads "wind" and you almost need to establish a new topic or your question will get overlooked. I think this a little worse with the system now being used than the previous one, but apparently there was no choice but to change.
