SMD Heatermeter on a RPI B+? Yes, it can be done......

Have you looked into Schmartboards? I've used a few to convert smd to dip and the are really easy to solder. I don't know how much it would be to set up a custom board though.

    Hitting http://openwrt.local/

I was having a related problem with my 3d printer. This is what I found in their FAQ: I can't reach my OctoPi under octopi.local under Windows, why? That .local part makes it a special address. Linux and MacOS already know how to understand it, Windows needs a little extra help. You'll have to...

    Screws for Heatermetercase

I found wood screws work just as well in plastic. Most toys seem to use them as fasteners.

    Electronics Help Please

You might be able to find a product locally called wire glue. (Walmart, Home Depot) I've used that in the past to repair pads of resistive switches. Or you can try making your own version with graphite and glue. Maybe find some metallic powder/paint that's conductive in the paint aisle.

Which Automatc Temp Control should I Buy?

Do you have any interest in DIY? The Linkmeter/Heatermeter is a great project. ( http://tvwbb.com/forumdisplay.php?85-LinkMeter-v2-Homebrew-BBQ-Controller ) The hardware really isn't difficult to assemble, and the flexibility is endless. It can be as simple as set-n-forget, or you can tweak...

HeaterMeter v4.0 for RaspberyPi / Standalone

As long as you don't use a 100watt solder gun and plumbing solder. It really is a well thought out kit for anyone to build. Just follow the wiki. But if you still feel the need for practice before you build. Try looking for a "learn to solder kit" at RadioShack. Or find some old 80's technology...

First smoke with HM4, results and questions

I used a slightly larger fan for my HM and if given a chance it will blow ash, if it gets over 70%. My quick and dirty method of diverting air around is to just use some foil (also my cheap solution to seal my smoker). Fold enough of it to make it heavy and shape it to fit against the vent...

First smoke with HM4, results and questions

Looks alot better. I know this one was for a shorter time, but do you feel the fuel consumption was any better? Last time you mentioned having to refuel several times. Also, What are you looking to happen with the clay saucer? I like the empty pan method because it deflects the direct heat...

    Has anyone tried Rust-Oleum NeverWet?

Currently I use a tupperware container for my HM storage and protection. I saw this on Gizmodo ( http://gizmodo.com/you-can-finally-buy-the-magical-spray-that-waterproofs-563613333 ) I was wondering if anyone has tried this or any other type of conformal coating (acrylic, silicone, wax) to...

First smoke with HM4, results and questions

What is your max fan setting? I've had this happen to me, the fan is putting in too much air and venting the heat right out the top. Maybe limit it to 20-30% max. It looks like after that the fan starts cooling off the cooker. You might also want to try running without water next time. The...

Attaching the blower to the WSM - My idea

After a few months of using this design I thought I'd share a few findings of my own. First, Aluminum foil makes for an excellent gasket material. Second, If you're still drawing too much air. Save the lid of the can, it can be used as a damper. I folded it over a piece of threaded rod that...

How many Heatermeter/Raspi built so far

Thank you for that. I might try the bookmark trick. I was trying to avoid having to use an outside device or the Rasberry to set up the Heatermeter between cookers. I'd like to be able to change most settings just from the LCD menu. Maybe add a few more menu options on the heatermeter to set...

How many Heatermeter/Raspi built so far

I finally finished mine. Great little helper. I made one adjustment that I really like. If anyone is interested Samtec has a elevated socket ( ESQ-113-34-t-D ) that gives you the height to avoid removing the RCA connector on the Pi, plus extends the pins through the top of the board to use a...

    Problem with HM v.4

If it's not in an enclosure, you might have given it a static electric shock. Have you tried to re-flash the controller?

    Adapting/Combining probe wires?

Unfortunately, that won't work. It's like trying to read a single resistor with two voltmeters. They are both trying to supply a voltage across the same temp sensor and it will just cause all sorts of weird readings.
