ThermoWorks DOT now only $29.25 thru Aug 3

guys - pardon the dumb question - but on the dot, you stick the probe in the meat, but where does the clock part live/sit? And second question - can it engage two probes at once, so one goes in the side grommet of the WSM measuring smoker temp, and a second goes into the meat?

Game plan for first Pork Butt - how's this sound?

Hey Keith - i haven't yet decided on a thermometer for internal smoker temp - so using Dome therm. Figuring after a few smokes, regardless of how off it may be from actual temp, I'll get a sense of what it is relative to what the actual may be. Then it ends up being the same thing - just take...

    Weber Chimney Starter

Just one question on the Weber chimney starter (which I've used all four times now) - I used chunk hardwood, and I'm finding a ridiculous amount of small pieces (both unlit and lit once it gets crackling) fall through the lower grate. I suppose it's the matter of finding better (larger pieced)...

Game plan for first Pork Butt - how's this sound?

Thanks to all for the great advice. Very happy with the results of my pulled pork. Quick summary: Got a 4.5 pounder, trimmed some fat off. Applied my rub the night before. Put it on about 8 am. Maintained a pretty steady inside smoker temp of 225 to 250 with very minimal vent adjustments. Around...

Terrific price - congrats! I simply couldn't find a new 18.5 on sale anywhere (two months ago). Quite pleased with it for $300. But again, you got a great price.

Game plan for first Pork Butt - how's this sound?

I should have also added, given it's my first time and I'm trying to keep it simple, I was also planning on not overly worrying about the "stall" - and simply hoping to "low and slow" right through it. I'm also not sure if I'll nee

Game plan for first Pork Butt - how's this sound?

Hi guys - itching for some pulled pork on my relatively new 18"-er. (So far, I've done baby backs, chicken and made some smoked salsa). I put together a quick "cheat sheet" of rough guidelines. I know some of this can vary and a little may be subjective, but all thoughts welcome if anything...

A few questions from a new owner

More terrific advice guys. Thanks. I can see, for remote scenario, Maverick is the clear winner. And lot of love for the Therma-pen (and maybe Therma-pop) too (or in addition). Here's one more question: How have you guys handled keeping equipment conveniently at your fingertips? (tongs, etc.)...

A few questions from a new owner

Thanks very much for all the great feedback! Helps a ton. One Question for the Thermapen folks - I assume the idea that it can be inserted into the side grommet for interior temp reading, plus, be inserted directly into the meat? Dual function? Next up, I'm thinking of wings (the spicier the...

A few questions from a new owner

Just got a new 18.5" and tried out baby backs for my first smoke. Very pleased with the results! Used hickory and the rub recipe here. Did one rack with bbq sauce, and one without. Both very tasty - the one without sauce was a little smokier. Haven't yet used the second (lower) grilling grate...
