    Heatermeter 4.0 tragedy strikes! :(

Ha! I've been using ziplock bags that way for years too. Always preventative or for a light drizzle. The ONE time it would have saved me I didn't think to do it. Brian Sugrue, that case looks like my kind of overkill. Coulda shoulda woulda. :)

    Heatermeter 4.0 tragedy strikes! :(

I've been using my trusty heatermeter 4.0 for years. i tend toward the 20 hour brisket, so the ability to set up the smoke the night before and sleep uninterrupted has been a lifesaver. I have always been anxious about a freak thunderstorm damaging my tech... well last weekend i neglected to...

Need Help getting Wifi back up and running

Confirmed that the HM is in client mode. As for the other part, that did the trick. I eliminated the DHCP reservation for the HM on the router and rebooted everything. Came back up and the router assigned an IP that was displayed on the LCD. Checked access on the PC and everything looks good...

Need Help getting Wifi back up and running

I built my heater meter almost two years ago and have loved using it as often as i can. Last week I inexplicably lost wifi connection had to do a cook offline. The horror! My efforts to restore wifi have been unsuccessful. I am using an Edimax EW-7811Un 150Mbps 11n Wi-Fi USB Adapter I noticed...

    Error sending data

Alright guys, I was going to leave it alone, but your posts have reignited the deep and abiding need to control my smoker from my desk at work. :P My router is an ancient Linksys WRT54G, at least 11 years old. It was still running the original firmware, which only allowed port forwarding to an...

How many Heatermeter/Raspi built so far

Built 1 and got it up and running... and I have to admit that I'm looking for an excuse to build another one. :)

    Error sending data

Thanks! That's very helpful. Unfortunately, since Cox Comm has subsequently blocked port 443 on my connection the "round robin" issue has become moot. I haven't called to complain and it's possible that they misinterpreted the unsecured traffic on the port as a worm or something, but I have a...

    Error sending data

I think I've missed something here. I've configured my HM to connect to my home network via wireless with static IP. Port 443 in my router is forwarded to the the HM's IP (apparently port 80 is blocked by my ISP, Cox Communications). Dynamic DNS is being handled by DynDNS.org, which (sadly) is...

    Troubleshooting - HeaterMeter4 with Raspberry pi B

SUCCESS!!! Where's the emoticon for "Irish Jig?" Thanks for the help, guys! For those still having trouble: Most of this is in bits and pieces elsewhere in the forum, but I haven't seen the whole process laid out clearly. Leaving aside whatever I was doing wrong last week, connecting to the...

    Troubleshooting - HeaterMeter4 with Raspberry pi B

Will do, as soon as I can get away from the office. If only I could take the afternoon off and focus on the things that really matter. :p

    Troubleshooting - HeaterMeter4 with Raspberry pi B

Thanks for clearing that up Bryan. I wish there was a way to adequately express my gratitude for all your work and support on this project without resorting to cliches like "You're the man"... but you are the mother-flippin' MAN. :P I left out the other ten paragraphs or so where I played...

    Troubleshooting - HeaterMeter4 with Raspberry pi B

Ok, so the heatermeter rPi setup is fully constructed, inoperative, and my troubleshooting has not illuminated any solutions so I am throwing myself on the mercy of the forums. Here's the deal: 1) I constructed the board late one night. For whatever reason, I left out the "R7-0" strap for the...

Alternate parts and sources (for RPi and Heatermeter 4.0)

I'm putting together an order from Mouser/Digikey to build a HM 4.0 (w/Rpi) but some of the components are on back-order for months. I don't want to wait and I'm way out of practice on circuit design; I really need some feedback on some different parts I'm considering. I'm looking at replacing...
