    Maverick et-73 mod

...Or you couold just discard your antique thermometer and get one that hasn't got any range issues, or tiny switch issues, or one that lets you know if you go out of range........ http://usbbqsupply.com/home/in...3_38&products_id=139

    Maverick et-73 mod

They have come out with the ET-732 and it will be shipping in the next few days. the on off switch is gone in favor of an external button, the range issue has been fixed, there is now an audible alarm if you go out of range, as well as a few issues being addressed. You can order them at...

I think that they should consider two price ranges, one for the not so serious, and one for the serious. Most of the folks I know that have a Mav et 73 would pay $75 for a well built quality unit that does what the ET 73 is supposed to do. I also have several friends that have oregon...

Hey Davo, I wish we hd one of those. We really need one. It didn;t used to be that way. Used to be that businesses just did what was right out of conscience, but nnot annymore. We have a couple Aussies that visit our ooutdoor cooking forum www.theqjoint.com You ought to drop by and pay us a...

    Bad customer service

I don't fault them for the defect, but to tell me that i have to wait until they are old enough for them to start stocking replacement parts while they continue to ship what I consider to be MY barrel out to other customers it inexcusable. to make it worse, I had inquired as to whether or not I...

    Bad customer service

I bought brand new 22 1/2"WSM 3 weeks ago while I was in KC. I got it home, put it together and discovered that the barrel was out of rounf and did not mate up correctly. I called and was assured that a new one would be shipped out the next day.about a week and a half later when it hadn't...

    Maverick et-73 mod

I have left my OS's out in the rain w/ no problem, but it really wouldn't be any big deal to put the unit in a plastic bag would it? As for bang for buck, I see no value in junk at any price. The Maverick with it's lack of range and lack of alarm to let you know when you have gone out makes...

I'm not familiar with the Guru grommet. I use my Gurus with Backwoods Smokers and just close the door on the cables. On My Vertical drum smoker, I drilled a 1/4" hole and insert the plug end of the cable through. No reason you couldn't do the same with the vent on a WSM is there?

    Maverick et-73 mod

I can't speak for the Maverick, but the Oregon Scientifics have never given me a problem. I do have to keep them numbered though so that the base is particular to the receiver. I sent my Maverick back after having to threaten to put the charges into contest. They said they would fix it but...

The dual probes aren't an issue to me. I'd rather have a separate thermo for the pit and one for meat. I currently have 6 of the oregon Scientific units. The only thing I'd like to see from them is a temp range feature.

I honestly do no for the life of me understand why all of you go to the extremes that you do to try and make a silk purse from the sow's ear of a thermometer known as the Maverick ET-73. Everything about the unit reeks of cheap, and even if you do get decent range out of it (which I doubt you...

I've been doing it for about three months now. Before that I used the potato trick with my Taylor thermos. The OS AW131 is very heavy duty and well built. For example, the probe cable is about twice as heavy as the Mav. I'm not sure of the length, but I'd guess it's about 5 feet. Tim

    Maverick et-73 mod

I digress to my original post. I too was very disappointed when I realized that the Mav just wasn't the answer. I can tell you though that a medium sized potato makes a great probe holder. Just poke the probe all the way through whre the thermister (right @ the point) is a good ways Out of...

    Maverick et-73 mod

I understand the draw for the 2 probe system. I just don't think the Mav is built to good design specs. The chintzy little switches that break easily, the fact that you have to take the back off to access them, the fact that it won't alert you in any way if you go out of range (which it will...

I would just send it back, get your money back, and buy an Oregon Scientific aw-131 for $10 less @ Lowe's. Even if you increase the range, the Mav is just badly designed and cheaply made IMHO. The AW-131 is exactly the opposite, and it talks, and in several languages. How cool is that? Tim
