    225° for 4 hours and 250° for 30 minutes

Ya, I should have been more specific. Fan "on above" was 25% so much of the steady state was damper only. P = 4, I = 0.003, D = 4.

    225° for 4 hours and 250° for 30 minutes

I'd say that this is dialed in.... Primo XL with maple leaf charcoal. I was cooking baby back ribs and this was the graph of the cook with the HeaterMeter and MicroDamper. #blownaway I had the HM set so that below 25% I'm damper only, so this show the strength of the Primo as well as the...

Brand New Damper Design - "The Micro Damper"

Smoked some chicken wings last night on the Primo XL with my newish HeaterMeter and MicroDamper. Other than a 5-10° oscillation at 6:00pm (I think that the chunks of cherry caught and led to this), I'm amazed how well the temp maintained 250° for 90min+ P = 4, I = 0.003, D = 4. Fan "on above"...

Brand New Damper Design - "The Micro Damper"

I've had my Primo XL for 3 years or so and have only used a HeaterMeter for a couple of months, but I'd never use the controller for cooks above 350°. For high heat cooks, open up the vents and let the primo rip. The HeaterMeter excels at adjusting the airflow to keep things low and slow but I...

Why I like 3D printing in ABS

Very cool to see the collection of the different colours. I'm a very happy recipient of one the black acetone finished cases from Jas.

    heatermeter v5?

JVisser, this isn't the best thread to answer your questions. I'm new to the HM world, but so far, it has worked great for me on my Primo XL using the MicroDamper. Here are my current settings, but I'm still playing with them. P = 4, I = 0.003, D = 4. I have Fan "on above" 25% (so I only use...

The Adapt-a-Damper - Open Source Project

Because if the fuel is driving the temperature too high you need to cut the air flow by turning off the blower and by preventing normal air flow from the lower vent. On my Primo grill, if the lower vent is open ¼" the pit will go to 250° on its own. The damper can choke that down by preventing...

Setting up remote access to HeaterMeter

In its default setup, the HeaterMeter will ask your router for an IP address every time it starts up. The router will pick an address based on what isn't being used in the range of addresses it manages. It can give the HeaterMeter the same one but it can easily assign a different one especially...

Setting up remote access to HeaterMeter

Re-flash roms to diagnose networking issues? That's rather odd advice in my experience. Plug and play doesn't play in the world of port forwarding and static IP addresses when people want to access their stuff when away from their home network.

Setting up remote access to HeaterMeter

I'm not sure if this is the same issue that you had Marc - could be. If the HM can be reached over the network but it cannot reach other services via their URLs (like smtp.google.com), it suggests that the issue could be that the HM network configuration doesn't have its DNS settings set...

First test run. How'd I do?

Thanks, I'll definitely play with the I values. I normally stick to the 200° to 275° range for longer cooks but I can see that stabilizing it more over a larger range would be desirable. And thanks again for the MicroDamper design. I'm sure that it will be perfect for my situation.

First test run. How'd I do?

My "pit" is a ceramic Primo Oval XL and I'm using a just printed MicroDamper. I decided to try a test of 4 temperatures (200, 225, 275, 350) to see how the system behaved. PID settings were 4, 0.004, 5. Min fan 0% max fan 80%. No fan at 15%. I'm really impressed, basically blown away. Here...

    Controlling RD3

I'll post my graphs shortly but the best part of the test cook and the benefit of the fan was the quick transitions. From my MAP gas start to 200° was 10 minutes. And quick transitions to 225, 275 and 350. Without the fan, the MicroDamper couldn't let in enough air as a wide open bottom vent...

    Controlling RD3

I'm so new that I haven't cooked yet with the HM and MicroDamper. I just received the printed parts yesterday for the MicroDamper. I'm doing a test cook right now, and so far so good. 100% startup, 80% at max and 15% for "on above". I'm testing at 200°, 225°, 275° and 350°. The biggest question...

    Controlling RD3

I'm very new to this as well (Primo Oval XL also), but my understanding is that if you want the damper open and the fan off when only small changes are needed, just set the "Fan out: on above X%" to some value that makes sense for your setup. For example, I'm playing with the HM right now in my...
