Brand New Damper Design - "The Micro Damper"

I hear you on making things work with what you have on hand. And you're right that you'd have to be doing a pretty high heat cook for the zinc to cause problems. I found a hole saw to work well enough, and no where near $45. As I drilled, some spray lube helped it along. I clamped it to a...

Brand New Damper Design - "The Micro Damper"

Nice job! Just a note, be careful with zinc, heat and food. Zinc vapors can do nasty things to you. And not good to get zinc deposits on your food either. Stainless is best, but pricey, and hard to work with. Plain carbon steel would be the cheapest, easiest thing to work. And...

New Raspberry Pi model coming out (leaked) - the A+

    And... It's official. And 12mm thick (vs 21 for B+) http://www.linuxvoice.com/raspberry-pi-model-a/ http://www.raspberrypi.org/raspberry-pi-model-a-plus-on-sale/

    Half a hundred HeaterMeter guts

That's what external ADC chips are for! But, yes, a 200pin socket would be, um, a leap for many. My HM works so well and flawlessly that I can't help but think of ways to make it more "fun" to debug. Or something like that.

    Half a hundred HeaterMeter guts

But, that board could just be the HM itself. No need for a separate Rpi board. Yes, it would logically have 2 parts - HM stuff, and the Rpi USB. But that's the only port 95% of people use. I don't hear of anyone using the HDMI or other ports in their Rpi. Yes, a few people use the ethernet...

    Half a hundred HeaterMeter guts

What about using a Rpi compute module for the next version? I know it would involve adding/routing USB, etc, but it seems like it would allow a much smaller HM+Rpi combo.

    RaspberryPi B+ Supported? No!

Perhaps I missed it, but this would be good to note on the wiki. And/or in the (sticky) 4.2.4 HW thread. Shame the forum software does not allow b+ as a search term.

Fan Mounting Solutions for Large BGE

For my vision kamado (similar to the BGE), I used a 1-1/2" hole saw on a piece of (uncoated, mild) steel. (keep the circle offcut!) Then cut the steel to the width/height of the damper track. Put it in the track, with some cotton or other material to seal the gaps. A 1-1/4" piece of iron pipe...

    Wish list...

The closest, easy way to get something analogous would be to get the integral of the fan speed and/or the servo position. That would at least be, to an extremely rough approximation, the sum of the available Oxygen. Oxygen consumed should be roughly similar to Oxygen available. An integral...

    The Development Log

How about an "other" for the SMS field where I could fill in my own email address. I have my (tmobile) setup so you can't SMS via the normal @tmomail.net address. But I do have another email that will work. That, or maybe make a way to customize the email so it's short and sweet. Thanks...

    My ~$3 Grill Connection

Re Costco... The closeout deals (prices end in .00) are store by store, and not advertised. But if you troll some of the deal site forums or kamado forums, people post when the Kamado closeouts happen. They do have coupons online. My general feeling is that you may not (usually) pay...

    My ~$3 Grill Connection

Fwiw, I got my Vision Classic Kamado (ceramic) at Costco last year at the end of the season. It was originally $570, but was down to $250. I actually bought it at $350, but when they dropped the price on the remaining one, I got them to refund/pricematch. It's pretty close to a Large BGE...

    High Heat Cooking???

No, just pop something on the grill, and we'll all be over shortly to help look, right? Nothing lost that a little smoky meat won't find...
