My Brookstone Grill Alert is accurate until I put the cover on my Weber. Then the temperature goes as much as 60 degrees too high. Tells me the meat is done when it has a long time yet to cook. I'm not sure why this happens. Others say they have no such problem when using a Weber kettle grill.
Brookstone has responded to my email request, and they feel the probe is defective. Interesting because it seems to read temperature accurately until I put the lid on.
I tried putting the probe all the way into the meat, but there was no change. Then tried putting the probe through the vent at the top of the kettle, but there was no change. Now I'm starting to wonder if I have a defective unit.
Do you use the Maverick with the lid on or off? I just bought a Brookstone Grill Alert which goes crazy with the lid on. Tells me the meat is done in ~10 minutes.
I am a long-time Weber user from West Chester. Just upgraded from a regular kettle to a Performer. Feel like I've moved ahead a century without losing the fine flavor. Still trying to learn how to regulate the cooking temperature.
