    New Thermoworks probe versions

Thanks, Bryan. I do need to update the firmware on my HeaterMeter, but in the meantime, this will help.

    New Thermoworks probe versions

I ordered two meat probes and a pit probe a couple of months ago when I saw this thread, and just tried them out on a brisket cook today. Oddly, the meat probe was registering very high (150F when the meat was just put in the kamado). I used the Thermoworks probe setting. Just to check my...

    New Thermoworks probe versions

Cool! I sure hope these work better than the Maverick ET-72 probes I've been using (and destroying). I just ordered two meat probes (on sale for $7.50 each) and one of their pit probes.

    Touch screen via HDMI?

Ah yes, that's right. I've been doing so many RPi projects lately, I forgot that HM runs off of OpenWRT. Does OpenWRT not support something like KDE or Gnome? In any event, I agree that the best solution is a spare tablet or phone. I just use my smartphone for access using either PitDroid or the...

    Touch screen via HDMI?

Actually, there are there are a couple of touchscreens made for the RPi that might work. Wouldn't it be possible to just run the HM web interface using one of the web browsers built into the RPi?

    HeaterMeter monitoring wine storage cabinet

Thanks Bryan. And the price was right... a nice bottle of wine for the guy who gave it to me, a bottle of 134a and refrigerant manifold valve kit. I've got less that $100 into it, not including the cost for electricity to run it during our SoCal heat wave. I've been collecting for a few years...

    HeaterMeter monitoring wine storage cabinet

So here are a couple of pics of this monster. It is in my garage (which may come back to bite me considering the power this consumes), and in its stock configuration, holds about 450 bottles. If additional racks are added to the top part of the unit, it can store up to 600 bottles. I still have...

    HeaterMeter monitoring wine storage cabinet

Yeah, there certainly are very expensive units that control both temperature and humidity. But, you can purchase relatively inexpensive ($3-5K) units that store hundreds of bottles of wine and have control over temperature and humidity. The replacement unit I was going to buy has control over...

    HeaterMeter monitoring wine storage cabinet

The unit I have does not have adjustable humidity control, but it does have a coil to control humidity. Basically, this coil comes directly off the high pressure side of the compressor and then sits inside the condensate pan (on the compressor/hot side of the unit). I guess that the higher temp...

    HeaterMeter monitoring wine storage cabinet

Hmm, interesting point about the HM not being optimal to control something like a compressor due to the short cycle times. This isn't something that can be modified by one of the PID values? Seems like a flip flop and 555 timer circuit could be devised to prevent the compressor from being switch...

    HeaterMeter monitoring wine storage cabinet

Here's a graph of my HM4.1 monitoring my newly installed 600 bottle capacity wine cabinet (a Vinotemp 600E). I'm simply monitoring the wine cabinet, and not using the HM fan control to modulate the cooling unit on this I obtained this from a friend of my father, as he no longer needed the unit...

    Serial Checksum Errors

My HeaterMeter build stays connected (and reporting the temp of my "man cave") when I'm not using it for BBQ. I've noticed quite a few of these checksum errors (38) after about three weeks of non-use (I need to BBQ more often!). Most of them are: OpenWrt daemon.warn avahi-daemon[633]: Invalid...

    Thermocouple setup?

Actually, how about something like this: http://www.adafruit.com/blog/2014/03/21/new-product-analog-output-k-type-thermocouple-amplifier-ad8495-breakout/ It comes with a standard K-type jack. Could this be wired to the Probe 0 contact such that when nothing is inserted into the 2.5 mm jack...

    Thermocouple setup?

Okay, I think I'll forgo the thermocouple then. I just wish there were pit probes based on thermistors that were a bit more rugged.

    Thermocouple setup?

Incidentally, where does the thermocouple daughterboard attach to the main HM board? Does this simply replace the probe 0 connector? Again, sorry for the confusion.
