I just really would like to get a decent portion of my money back :-). It has been ages since I added it all up. PM me if interested, should be able to ship it all in a flat rate usps box. I do have "everything" needed as far as I know, including a fan.

Finally got the rest of my parts from Mouser, lesson learned if there are back order parts, they will hit you for about $9 for $1 worth of parts+shipping if you picked USPS for the initial order :-).

I'm kind of thinking some mylar tape on the inside of the case would stop the lcd from shining through ?? How much if the $35 was shipping/handling/etc ?? IE what would the 10 piece price be each ??
Do you/can you have your order setup like the mouser "project" so others can easily order one up...
Somebody did share with me about using a cap to provide a "kick" to move a servo or solenoid, then a resister to limit current flow to "hold" position. Possibly exposing my ignorance here but can you charge the cap with the output pin, and get enough "kick" to move the servo, then use the output...
Still waiting on a few parts from Mouser, I assume it would work without the LED's...but need the .....
Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors - Leaded 25volts 22uF 5x7 20% 2LS
Got my learn to solder kits done :-)....and fixed a Linksys PSUS4 print server that was totally dead, had some bulged caps...
Did you try booting it with a normal linux distro ?? I got my Pi in a few days on Amazon.com from SK2 group. I think it was 55 shipped. I see a used like new one out there right now for 43 shipped. If you want to mail me an SD card or two I can burn you a normal linux distro and the openwrt...
I did set this up, with a little google on how to do the port forward on my router, I did not yet setup the dynamic IP stuff at no-ip. but until my IP changes this should work :-). Just a raspberry pi, no heatermeter yet.
Edit: deleted the links....dunno if it is a security risk, might be :-)...
Are you using wireless on the pi (plural) ?? They would end up with different IP numbers, and I just look up the IP in the web interface for my router ??
EDIT: maybe you are talking about accessing from outside the home network, which is currently over my head :-).

Well being able to control fan SPEED will be interesting, and the Auber fan has a weighted damper too, which might be nice. I have the 20 cfm plumbed right in with 1.5" tube...some people restrict them in creative ways by how they plumb them. I made a washer for my ducting that has a 5/8 hole...
I was planning on using the same wal wart that I use with the Auber, the fan from Digikey is back ordered, and or may not be big enough for a 55 gallon drum smoker :-).
So what is the highest current draw that we can control ? IE will a 20cfm Auber fan work OK ?? They say .39a for their controller AND the 20 cfm fan...I doubt the PID used much of that .39a.
