Your Preferred Simple Green?

Are you talking for a general degreaser, or for a specific piece? For the cooked on gunk the members mark brand grill and oven cleaner is awesome. Don’t recommend using that or easy-off on aluminum.

I’m also a fan of Zep 505, but the OG simple green smells so good lol
General use for cleaning/degreasing. I think @Jeff MA mentioned he had great results with the Dawn Professional Power Dissolver on the lid interior. IIRC, he achieved a mirror-like shine without using a razor blade. I don't recall if he also used it on the cookbox.

The US Air Force put out a warning to not use the green colored Simple Green on their aircraft. It was found to attack the aircraft aluminum. Simple Green later reformulated a product that is approved for aircraft use.
One of my past acquaintances worked for Simple Green as their product demonstration / sales leader. He also was a noted pro BBQ champion. His team is "Master of Disaster".
This stuff. Pricey. Over $30 at Walmart.

I would like to try that and wonder how it compares to Members Mark.

Not too easy to find, but if you are willing to pay $18 you can buy one bottle on eBay. You can get a case from a restaurant supply company, but the shipping cost will eat up any savings.

I know we all have our own favorite products and methods throughout the restoration process. The great thing is that there is a lot of great people here with quality experience and many different ways to do it and come out with excellent results.

I can't wait to see some of your Restorations.
Thank you all for your input. I value your experience and expertise. Time to choose a grill and get the endcaps and cookbox to the blaster/coater, maybe the frame as well.

I'd sure like to see that black Jr. you picked up off eBay assembled if you haven't already. That would be a pretty easy start getting familiar with everything. Since it's new and unused you could just put a good coat of wax on everything as you put it together.

Part of me wishes I would have picked that one up myself but I'm really glad that you got it!! I'm sure I'll have my opportunity to get a nice black lid Junior at some point

Wow, I would like to believe that's true given the amount of time and effort I've spent on scraping the inside of grill lids. Definitely show some before and after pictures if you try this on a lid.

Thank you again for steering me to that eBay Jr.! You'll find one... and I'm betting dimes to doughnuts it will be free!! :ROFLMAO:

It's actually still in storage, unassembled. I may do the black Jr. from Phoenix that I have at home, or the red Jr. from Santa Fe, NM that my nephew is bringing to me from Lubbock next week along with that storage queen black Platinum 1000 from Albuquerque.

Yes, I agree. But I would like to see him try it on several grill lids. Even using the razor scraper, some are super easy and take just 15 minutes and some take well over an hour.
Will do, Bruce. Lowe's just informed me the Dawn Pro Dissolver won't be available for pickup until 3/12. I'll give it a try asap and take good pictures of the process.

You already have a lot of really good options. An Excellent selection of restoration grills in a short period of time. Whichever one you decide to do first I'm looking forward to seeing your results and answering any questions you might have along the way.

Thank you, Josh! I assure you the questions will be coming. I'm looking forward to the process and input from the group's collective talent and experience.
