What should I not miss when visiting Dallas/Ft Worth?

Mrs. TVWB and I will be spending a week in the Dallas/Ft Worth area during the State Fair of Texas, so we will be going to the fair for Fletcher's Original Corny Dogs and a ride on the Texas Star Ferris wheel, for sure. Other plans include:
  • Fort Worth Stockyards
  • The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza
  • George W. Bush Presidential Center
  • Goldee's BBQ
  • Cattleack Barbeque
  • HEB supermarket
Anyone have recommendations for don't-miss attractions at the fair or other sites in the area?

Have not really visited Texas except when I was working as a Flight Attendant. Don't know if you've ever been there. Just be aware it's a culture shock from California. Many folks "open carry". I've known folks who were all "wigged" out by some of that swore they would never go back. Otherwise can't offer any other advice. Except I hope you have a great time

I discovered good brisket when I was working on Houston's southwest corner, in '95. In addition to the big names, I'd be finding the smallest hole in the wall joints that I could locate. For sure, some good Mexican (or Texican,) almost certainly other ethnicities as well. Good sign is walking in and discovering that I'm the only Caucasian in the place.

Oh, I did have the opportunity to go to the Houston Rodeo one night. One of the things that impressed me was in the arena for the main event. Rowdy & fun crowd all day, when the national anthem was announced, everybody stood up, shut up, and saluted. That entire arena went silent. And just for the record, I thoroughly enjoyed that outing.

Back in the early 2000s, while training at Siemens in Grand Prarie, they treated us to a visit to the Salt Lick. Interesting place. Have seen the name used on and off. Just not sure what it is like now a days...

No offense to DanHoo but Pancho's is terrible and thankfully they are all but out of business, I think there are only 3 locations left. If you want good Tex-Mex then Mariano's Hacienda Ranch in Arlington is very good. There is also a very small place on the North Side of Fort Worth which is close to the stockyards called Los Asaderos, they are famous for their enchiladas and their salsa is made fresh every day and it's good and spicy. There isn't a lot of parking for Los Asaderos but you can park across the street and cross over. It's no frills but it's really good.

As for BBQ Panther Island BBQ is about the only BBQ place that I will go to. It's small and only has a few tables so it's not a sit down for a long time kind of place, but the brisket is very good. I have not been to Goldee's yet so I can't speak to that one but I have heard the same things all of you have about it and I'm sure it's very good.

None taken I appreciate the feedback. I enjoyed it as a kid, and visited again and thought it was good, but it was a long time ago.

I used to eat there as a kid too and went back a few times as an adult and every time I would go, I would leave thinking to myself, I'm never eating there again LOL! Raise the Flag!

If the weather's nice there is the Dallas Arboretum, nice place to take a walk and see some lovely flowers and landscaping. And if you like grilled meat and have an expense account, there's Fogo de Chao in Addison (N. Dallas) - there are other Brazilian places, but Fogo was just up the street for us when we lived there. A lot of great Mexican food in Dallas, but one of the finest is Javier's in mid-town. It's kind of upscale, but the food is awesome.
