Weber Summit S-420 NG to LPG.

I’ve been researching about conversions and it seems like a cheap way to get a great grill.

I found someone who has a S-420 and will be selling it to me for $100. I was able to get the serial number and according to Webers site, the cook box and burners are still under warranty.

LPG Manifold cost $210
Flavorizer bars $80 (might just need a good cleaning but appear rusted so I’ll assume replacement)
LPG hose with regulator $15
Orifice for side burner idk $20 (might need tools)

So I’d be in for about $425.
I’ll attach some pictures of what the grill itself looks like. The grates seem to be okay. Not the best pictures.

Am I crazy, is it worth the cost?

You need to see if the cookbox has burned through. All your pics are cosmetic in nature. The flavorizer bars appear okay and might not need replacing.

If your buddy is the original owner and you can get a new cookbox, then you’ll have a nice grill that’ll get you 10-20 years good use on your rebuild.

For $425, I’d buy a newer grill with a sear burner and spend $800 and have a new warranty and no hassles of a conversion. Costco has a sale for $799 for a decent grill.

It all depends what you want and how much you want to spend. Only you can decide if you’re getting a good deal.

I don't know if your idea is crazy or not.

Another alternative is to find a good used grill that is already setup for propane.
