Weber Recalls Over 3.2 Million Metal Wire Bristle Grill Brushes

that reminds me. I just sent my pic in today. I was at home depot and saw the new red nylon brushes, big warning saying to use on cool grates only lol. rather get a rebate check over the brush
If you look at the actual reviews on Amazon, not just the star ratings, many are not that positive.

They aren't gonna give anyone a rebate. My guess half the people who bought them don't even know they have been recalled because of this forum and Amazon was the only reason I knew. Probably a bunch tossed in the trash over the years I should not have said 3.2 mill was their liability to replace probably nowhere near that plus asking us to take another picture eliminates another group although I am going to do it cause I am pissed.

Well, I bought mine back in like 2017. Had I been using it regularly, it would have lasted about one season. They sold millions of them that have long since been pitched in the trash.

I had been using the same long handle wood model for 28 years. I don't ever recall seeing a stray bristle anywhere. I was good for replacing it every other year so I don't think I was ever really tempting fate on it.

I resubmitted the photo they wanted a clear picture of the Weber logo same one as Bruce had. Funny I thought it was the small one it was not so I did resubmit the photo. If you have the app still launch it comes up with retake the photo says needed a clear picture of the logo not gonna let this go out of principle.

I would like to get rid of my metal wire brushes. But it appears that there is no consensus as to what is the best alternative. I also would not like to pay $80.00 for a brush.

On agas grill, due to the high heat creating really sticky residue, It would seem like the nylon replacement wont cut it.

If there is consensus as to the style, brand, or model number for alternatives. I would love to hear from all of you.

Leaning towards this one:

That brush looks interesting. Let us know if you get it and how it works for you.

Has anyone gotten the replacement yet? Or does anyone know which specific model they are replacing it with? I have 3 of these, one for work grill, one for my E330 and one for the SSP. I have never had an issue with them in the past and they work so damn well. I just wonder if I would have a use for nylon brush(es) for other things.

I've continued to use the recalled brush. I sent the photo and got confirmation. Received this email yesterday:

The whole thing is farcical. The nylon bristles are pointless. I think I'm going to continue to use a putty knife and the recalled wire brush. I always inspect the grill for metal bits. Maybe I'll try the aluminum foil ball. AI suggests those woven steel or copper colored scrubbers for god knows what use? How freaking hard is it to design a grill brush to safely clean a hot grill? FWIW, I use my Weber Q1200 2-4 nights a week.

I think the bottom line is that wire bristle brushes do pose some risk. A Libman is much less likely to fail, but even they can fail if you keep them too long. If any of us wound up in the ER with ingested bristles, we would be pretty scared.

For me, the Chargon is the perfect tool for stainless rods. Works perfectly and really does NOT take an excessive amount of time as you might think. I use one of those wood spatula things on my grill with GrillGrate grates. It makes a good combination once "burned in" - and I worry less about the anodized coating scraping off.

For my beloved cast iron grates, the choices are to me more difficult. I try to use the soft pad type after the grill has cooled to just warm. I also use a Charbroil version of the plastic brush that has replaceable heads. When all else has failed, I admit that I still have pulled out the Libman. I am getting more reticent about doing so, however.

Just saw this recall notice. I've had two different models of the affected brushes- and have tossed them both after finding bristles in the drip tray (while cleaning the grill).

Anyone try one of those pumice stone grill grate cleaners as an alternative? Do they work, or just wear down too quickly?
I had one quite awhile ago.
Was more of a hassle IMO because it left a gritty residue all over the grate.
I had to wipe it down with a wet rag several times.
That was the one that was seen on TV.
