Weber Recalls Over 3.2 Million Metal Wire Bristle Grill Brushes

Is there something in particular that is more dangerous in the Weber brush vs all the wire brush manufactures out there who are not doing recalls?

There are a lot of them out there. I would think that the Weber branded ones are likely higher quality than many of the dozens of off branded ones. But, most of them are chinese companies and probably are not worried about the issue. It has actually been a well documented problem for many years with these style of brushes. Weber Probably got sued and decided it was cheaper to stop selling them and replace a few of the ones in use already than to leave themselves exposed to further suits. A knock off chinese company would simply declare bankruptcy if sued and start selling them under another name a week later.

Amazon notified me I bought one in 2015.

After cleaning with a wire brush I have always used an oil soaked paper towel to wipe down the grate.

I have 2 of them one bought at Amazon and they notified me also. Supposedly you need to download an app to take the picture and send to them I have no desire to do that so just gonna toss them and call it a day.

I did it. It was no big deal and it only took a couple of minutes. I figured I might as well get the free brush even if I doubt I'll use it for the grill.

I figure the reason they are doing it is not for some nefarious reason but rather to ensure that they don't get a billion false claims. The app you download allows you to take a photo of your brush which should help ensure you still have it and it also adds date and GPS info to ensure someone isn't just passing on the photo for someone else to use.

That being said, it will probably cut down significantly on those willing to claim the recall as it is a PIA and forces you to submit more personal info that many people will be willing to do.

It's crazy how so many things are done with apps now and I mostly find it a convenience. I replaced one of my garage door openers a month ago and the new one did not come with a written set of instructions. It came with a card with a QR code to scan and download the instructions to my phone. In that case I would have preferred an instruction book, but the app wasn't bad.

Yah, its a love hate relationship for me. A lot of setup on all these new electronics is completed simply by scanning those QR codes. Before, you had to got step by step through a long menu and type in serial numbers and model numbers and other crap. Now, you just scan it, tap a few buttons and done.
That being said, I do most of my work on a computer. I hate trying to browse the web or use apps when I can do it on the computer. I do 90% of my texting and messaging on my computer.

I'm the exact opposite. I'm 90% phone, 10% computer.

I always scrubbed the worst off with something like that, then used wadded up foil or the scrub pad style brush, and finally went over it with a paper towel. If you then wipe the grates with a high heat oil like avocado or tallow before cooking, I just guess I never understood how this kind of thing happens without a visual and tactile disability?
I did just get, as a gift, an off brand version of the "wet sponge on a stick” steam cleaners, and it’s pretty nice!

I would like to get rid of my metal wire brushes. But it appears that there is no consensus as to what is the best alternative. I also would not like to pay $80.00 for a brush.

On agas grill, due to the high heat creating really sticky residue, It would seem like the nylon replacement wont cut it.

If there is consensus as to the style, brand, or model number for alternatives. I would love to hear from all of you.

Leaning towards this one:
